Job Description

Job SummaryThis role will analyze payroll data, manage payroll-related transactions, and collaborate closely with the finance department including completion of monthly reconciliations to support accurate and timely reporting. It will also ensure that payroll practices align with the organization's financial goals and compliance with collective bargaining agreements and government legislation.Duties & ResponsibilitiesResearch and interpret legislative requirements impacting payroll processes, ensure compliance with labour laws, tax withholdings, and wage reportingPrepare and present detailed financial reports related to payroll expenses, tax liabilities, and compliance metricsWork closely with the finance team to ensure payroll processes and controls align with overall financial objectivesSupport budgeting and forecasting related to payroll expensesPerform monthly reconciliations of all payroll-related accounts including vacation, ensuring discrepancies are identified and resolved in a timely mannerLead and coordinate payroll audits focusing on financial discrepancies, compliance issues, and overall accuracy of payroll transactionsIdentify payroll risks and recommend improvements to payroll systems and processes for enhancing compliance and financial reporting accuracyAnalyze payroll costs, including overtime, bonuses, and deductions to ensure budgetary and reporting compliance and accuracyGuide the People & Culture and Finance teams on payroll compliance issues and financial reporting requirementsAssist in developing and updating policies and procedures related to payroll compliance, ensuring these are aligned with best practices and regulatory changesPrepare and reconcile vacation and banked time reportsResponsible for the reconciliation of invoices against payroll deductionsActively participate in Porter's Safety Management System (SMS) including reporting hazards and incidents encountered in daily operations; understand, comply and promote the Company Safety PolicyBehavioural CompetenciesConcern for Safety: Identifying hazardous or potentially hazardous situations and taking appropriate action to maintain a safe environment for self and others.Teamwork: Working collaboratively with others to achieve organizational goals.Passenger/Customer Service: Providing service excellence to internal and/or external customers (passengers).Initiative: Dealing with situations and issues proactively and persistently, seizing opportunities that arise.Results Focus: Focusing efforts on achieving high quality results consistent with the organization's standards.Fostering Communication: Listening and communicating openly, honestly, and respectfully with different audiences, promoting dialogue and building consensus.QualificationsPost Secondary education in Finance, Business Administration, or a related field5 to 7 years' experience in financial analysis or payroll complianceStrong understanding of payroll regulations, tax law, and compliance standardsProficiency in financial and payroll software, with advanced skills in Microsoft Excel for data analysis and reportingExcellent analytical, problem-solving, and organizational skillsPrior airline experience is an asset
