Job Description
Our client, a prominent global leader in the mining industry, is seeking a highly skilled Senior Geotechnical Engineer to join their team in Washington, D.C., US . This senior-level position is critical for ensuring the safety, stability, and efficiency of mining operations through expert geotechnical analysis and design. You will be responsible for conducting comprehensive geotechnical investigations, including site characterization, soil and rock mechanics analysis, and slope stability assessments for open-pit and underground mining projects. Your expertise will be vital in designing and overseeing the construction of mine infrastructure, such as tailings dams, waste rock dumps, access roads, and underground support systems. Responsibilities include developing and implementing ground support strategies, monitoring ground conditions, and assessing risks associated with geotechnical hazards like landslides and seismic activity. You will also be involved in mine planning, contributing geotechnical insights to optimize extraction methods and minimize environmental impact. The ideal candidate possesses extensive experience in mining geotechnical engineering, with a strong understanding of geological principles, rock mechanics, and numerical modeling techniques. Excellent analytical, problem-solving, and decision-making skills are essential for addressing complex geotechnical challenges. You must be adept at collaborating with multidisciplinary teams, including geologists, mine engineers, and environmental scientists. Strong communication and reporting skills are required to present findings and recommendations to project management and regulatory bodies. This role offers a challenging and rewarding opportunity to contribute to significant mining projects while upholding the highest standards of safety and engineering excellence.
Key Responsibilities:
Conduct advanced geotechnical investigations for mining projects, including geological surveys, soil and rock sampling, and laboratory testing. Perform detailed analyses of soil and rock mechanics, slope stability, seismic hazards, and foundation design. Design and oversee the construction of mine infrastructure, including tailings dams, waste rock facilities, and underground excavations. Develop and implement comprehensive ground support and mine stabilization strategies. Monitor ground conditions and identify potential geotechnical risks, developing mitigation plans. Provide geotechnical input for mine planning, resource modeling, and extraction method selection. Utilize advanced geotechnical software for modeling and simulation (e.g., FLAC, GeoStudio). Ensure compliance with all relevant geotechnical engineering standards, regulations, and best practices. Collaborate effectively with geologists, mine engineers, environmental specialists, and project managers. Prepare detailed technical reports, specifications, and design documentation. This position requires a strong understanding of the geological and mining context of Washington, D.C., US and its surrounding regions.
