Job Description

Our client, a prominent player in the specialty chemicals industry, is seeking a highly skilled and experienced Senior Chemical Process Engineer to join their innovative R&D team located in Gatineau, Quebec, CA . This role is crucial for optimizing existing chemical processes, developing new manufacturing methods, and ensuring the efficient, safe, and sustainable production of chemical products. The ideal candidate will possess a deep understanding of chemical engineering principles, process simulation, scale-up procedures, and safety protocols. You will be responsible for conducting pilot studies, troubleshooting process issues, and collaborating closely with research scientists, production teams, and quality control specialists. This position offers a unique opportunity to contribute to cutting-edge chemical manufacturing and drive significant improvements in operational efficiency and product quality.

Key Responsibilities:

Design, develop, and optimize chemical processes for new and existing products. Conduct process simulations and modeling using software such as Aspen Plus or HYSYS. Oversee pilot plant operations, troubleshoot issues, and analyze experimental data. Lead process scale-up activities from lab to commercial production. Develop and implement process control strategies to ensure product quality and consistency. Conduct hazard analyses (e.g., HAZOP) and ensure compliance with safety and environmental regulations. Collaborate with cross-functional teams, including R&D, production, engineering, and safety departments. Prepare technical reports, documentation, and proposals related to process improvements. Investigate and resolve process deviations and operational problems. Stay current with advancements in chemical engineering and process technology.

Qualifications

Bachelor's degree in Chemical Engineering or a related field. A Master's degree is highly preferred. Minimum of 7 years of progressive experience in chemical process engineering, preferably in the specialty chemicals sector. Proven experience in process design, simulation, scale-up, and optimization. Strong knowledge of process safety management (PSM) and regulatory compliance. Proficiency with process simulation software (e.g., Aspen Plus, HYSYS) and data analysis tools. Excellent problem-solving, analytical, and critical thinking skills. Strong communication, presentation, and interpersonal skills. Ability to work effectively in a team environment and manage projects independently. Experience in statistical analysis and Design of Experiments (DOE) is an asset. Registered Professional Engineer (P.Eng) or eligible for registration in Quebec.

This is a full-time, on-site position based in our facility in Gatineau, Quebec, CA . The role requires active participation in plant operations and collaboration with on-site teams.
