Senior Agronomist

Our client, a leading agricultural science organization based in Virginia Beach, Virginia, US , is seeking a highly experienced Senior Agronomist to join their dynamic team. This role is crucial for advancing sustainable farming practices and enhancing crop yields across diverse agricultural landscapes. The successful candidate will be responsible for conducting in-depth research, developing innovative crop management strategies, and providing expert advice to farmers and agricultural stakeholders.

Key responsibilities include:

Designing and implementing field trials to evaluate new crop varieties, fertilizers, and pest control methods. Analyzing soil, water, and plant tissue samples to identify nutritional deficiencies and environmental stressors. Developing tailored fertilization and irrigation programs to optimize plant health and productivity. Monitoring crop development, diagnosing diseases and pests, and recommending integrated management solutions. Collaborating with research scientists, extension agents, and farmers to disseminate research findings and best practices. Staying abreast of the latest advancements in agronomy, agricultural technology, and regulatory requirements. Preparing detailed technical reports, scientific publications, and presentations. Mentoring junior agronomists and providing technical training.

Qualifications

Master's degree or Ph.D. in Agronomy, Soil Science, Crop Science, or a related field. A minimum of 7 years of progressive experience in agronomic research, crop consulting, or agricultural extension. Proven track record of designing and executing field research trials. Strong knowledge of soil chemistry, plant physiology, entomology, and plant pathology. Proficiency in statistical analysis software and data interpretation. Excellent communication, presentation, and interpersonal skills. Ability to work independently and as part of a multidisciplinary team. A valid driver's license and willingness to travel to field sites as needed.
