Principal Chemical Process Engineer

Our client, a globally recognized leader in the chemical industry, is seeking a highly accomplished Principal Chemical Process Engineer to join their advanced research and development division in Kolkata, West Bengal . This is a critical role for an individual with extensive expertise in chemical process design, optimization, and scale-up. The Principal Engineer will lead complex projects, mentor junior engineers, and contribute significantly to the innovation and efficiency of our client's manufacturing processes. The ideal candidate will possess a strong theoretical foundation coupled with practical experience in designing and implementing robust, safe, and cost-effective chemical processes for industrial applications.

Key Responsibilities:

Lead the design, development, and implementation of new chemical processes from conceptualization through to commercialization. Optimize existing chemical processes to improve yield, efficiency, safety, and reduce environmental impact. Conduct rigorous process simulations, feasibility studies, and techno-economic analyses. Develop and review Process Flow Diagrams (PFDs), Piping and Instrumentation Diagrams (P&IDs), and other essential engineering documentation. Perform process hazard analyses (PHAs), including HAZOP studies, and implement necessary safety measures. Oversee pilot plant operations and troubleshoot issues during scale-up activities. Provide technical leadership and mentorship to a team of chemical engineers and technicians. Collaborate with cross-functional teams, including R&D, manufacturing, project management, and EHS, to ensure project success. Stay abreast of cutting-edge technologies, industry best practices, and regulatory requirements in chemical engineering. Author technical reports, specifications, and research papers. Ensure compliance with all relevant industry standards, safety regulations, and environmental policies. Contribute to the strategic direction of the engineering department and drive innovation in process technology.

Qualifications

Ph.D. or Master's degree in Chemical Engineering from a reputed institution. 10+ years of progressive experience in chemical process design, development, and scale-up within the chemical industry. Proven track record of successfully leading complex engineering projects from inception to completion. Extensive knowledge of process simulation software (e.g., Aspen Plus, HYSYS) and design tools. In-depth understanding of reaction kinetics, thermodynamics, mass transfer, and separation processes. Strong experience with process safety management (PSM) and hazard analysis techniques. Excellent analytical, problem-solving, and critical-thinking skills. Exceptional leadership, communication, and interpersonal skills, with the ability to influence and collaborate effectively. Published research or patents in relevant fields are highly desirable. Experience in specialty chemicals or petrochemicals is a significant advantage. Proficiency in project management methodologies.
