Geotechnical Engineering Specialist, Mining

Our client, a major player in the global mining industry, is seeking a highly skilled Geotechnical Engineering Specialist to join their operations team based in Nagpur, Maharashtra, IN . This critical role involves ensuring the stability and safety of mining operations through expert geotechnical analysis and design. The specialist will be responsible for assessing ground conditions, designing support systems, and monitoring the performance of open-pit and underground mine structures.

Key responsibilities include conducting detailed site investigations, performing slope stability analyses, rock mechanics assessments, and seismic hazard evaluations. You will develop geotechnical models and provide recommendations for mine design, excavation sequences, and ground support. The specialist will also be responsible for monitoring instrumentation data, analyzing the performance of slopes and tunnels, and implementing remediation measures as needed. Collaboration with mine planning, operations, and safety departments is essential to integrate geotechnical considerations into all aspects of mining activities.

The successful candidate will possess a Master's degree or Ph.D. in Geotechnical Engineering, Mining Engineering, or a related discipline, with a minimum of 5-7 years of experience in geotechnical engineering within the mining sector. Demonstrated experience with geotechnical software packages such as FLAC, Rocscience suite, or similar is required. Strong understanding of rock mechanics, soil mechanics, and geological principles applied to mining is crucial. Excellent analytical, problem-solving, and report-writing skills are necessary, along with the ability to communicate complex technical information effectively to diverse audiences. Experience with ground monitoring instrumentation and data interpretation is also important.

This position requires a hands-on approach and will involve regular site visits to our mining locations. The role is based in Nagpur, Maharashtra, IN , and is not eligible for remote work.
