Peterson Cartridge Company has an opening for a 2nd shift process engineer. Our facilities are clean, well-lit, and 5-S efficient. We produce match-grade, precision rifle casings to the highest quality standards for competitive shooting, hunting, and military use.
Job Summary
We are seeking a dynamic and detail-oriented Manufacturing Process Engineer to join our team on the second shift, working from 3 PM to 11 PM, Monday through Friday. In this role, you will be instrumental in optimizing manufacturing processes, ensuring high-quality production, and driving continuous improvement initiatives within our manufacturing facility. Your expertise will help streamline operations and enhance product quality, with the goal of minimizing cost while maximizing productivity. This position offers an exciting opportunity to contribute to a fast-paced environment where mechanical knowledge, process engineering skills, and a passion for manufacturing excellence are highly valued.
Responsibilities
- Perform tooling changeovers with an emphasis on limiting production downtime
- Fill out Current Machine Settings documents and communicate with Tooling Manager
- Maintain accurate machine records to streamline the changeover process
- Identify and resolve technical problems that prevent the automated equipment from running at rate
- Anticipate, identify, and resolve machine issues that may impact production rates
- Identify any Material Handling or Forming tooling needing modified or created
- Modify, repair, and fabricate forming and material handling tooling
- Work with manufacturing engineering to design and create the parts as required
- Install new parts and assess effectiveness
- Do what it takes to effectively lower the scrap rate and prevent the equipment from damaging, otherwise sellable, casings
- Take ownership of reducing scrap rates and eliminating equipment-related damage to sellable casings
Required Skills and Qualifications
- Excellent troubleshooting and problem-solving skills
- In-depth knowledge of mechanical and electrical equipment
- Ability to lift and move heavy equipment
- Skilled with mechanical and electrical tools (Wrenches, hammers, grinders, misc. hand and power tools etc.; Digital volt meters (DVM), misc. electrical hand tools etc.)
- Good verbal and written communication skills
- Good time-management skills (Ability to prioritize tasks and reprioritize tasks when needed)
- Works well with others in a team environment, as well as self-motivated when working alone (Can give orders as well as receive orders)
- Ability to learn on the fly, at a fast pace, and retain most or all of the information
Desired Skills and Qualifications
- 4-year degree in engineering
- Ability to operate machinery and technical equipment (Manual Mill and/or Lathe; Digital Comparator)
- Skilled in analyzing mechanical and electrical drawings
- Familiarity with safety standards and regulations
- Precision measurement instruments (calipers, micrometers, dial indicators, etc.)
