Location: Largo, MD
Shift: Days – 3x12s (7:30 AM – 8:00 PM)/ Nights – 3x12s (7.30 PM – 8:00 AM)
Contract Length: 13 Weeks
Schedule: Every Other Weekend | 36 Hours/Week
Job Overview
We are seeking an experienced Certified Nursing Assistant (CNA) for an inpatient Behavioral Health unit. This role supports adult and geriatric patients in a 28-bed, locked psychiatric unit. The ideal candidate will have strong behavioral health experience and be confident in crisis intervention, de-escalation, and managing assaultive behaviors.
First-time travelers are welcome. One year of experience is required.
Patient Population
- Adults & Geriatrics
- Acute psychosis
- Major depressive disorders
- Suicidal ideation / attempts
- Homicidal ideation
- Personality disorders
- Substance-related disorders
Responsibilities
- Assist patients with activities of daily living (ADLs)
- Obtain vital signs and perform room/patient safety checks
- Support therapeutic treatment modalities and group activities
- Assist with ambulation, feeding, bathing, and hygiene care
- Utilize crisis intervention and de-escalation techniques
- Manage assaultive behavior using approved behavior management strategies
- Recognize medication side effects and report concerns
- Participate in milieu management and therapeutic communication
- Follow isolation precautions and safety procedures
- Support emergency response situations (CPR, rapid response, restraints application)
Required Qualifications
- Active Maryland CNA License
- BLS (AHA only)
- CPI Certification (Calm Every Storm online accepted)
- Minimum 1 year of CNA experience
- Strong behavioral health experience required
