Job Summary
We are seeking a detail-oriented Analytical Chemist with hands-on experience in HPLC and Gas Chromatography (GC) to manage the complete analytical workflow—from sample preparation and method execution to data analysis and reporting. The ideal candidate should be capable of independently operating analytical instruments, troubleshooting routine issues, maintaining data integrity, and delivering accurate, reproducible results in a research or industrial laboratory.
Key Responsibilities
Sample Preparation & Processing
- Prepare liquid, solid, and biological/environmental samples for HPLC and GC analysis.
- Perform extraction, filtration, centrifugation, dilution, derivatization (for GC when required), and sample cleanup.
- Prepare calibration standards, QC samples, blanks, and reagent solutions.
- Ensure proper sample labeling, storage, and chain of custody.
HPLC & GC Analysis
- Independently operate HPLC and GC systems (GC-FID, GC-MS is an advantage).
- Develop, optimize, and execute analytical methods for quantitative and qualitative analysis.
- Select appropriate columns, mobile phases, carrier gases, and operating conditions.
- Perform system suitability tests and ensure instrument readiness before analysis.
- Monitor chromatographic performance and identify abnormalities during runs.
Data Processing & Reporting
- Process chromatographic data using instrument software.
- Perform peak identification, integration, calibration curve generation, and quantitative calculations.
- Review chromatograms for accuracy and troubleshoot integration issues.
- Generate analytical reports with clear interpretation of results.
- Maintain complete and accurate laboratory documentation.
Instrument Maintenance & Troubleshooting
- Perform routine maintenance including column care, pump maintenance, injector cleaning, detector checks, leak testing, and system calibration.
- Diagnose and resolve common instrument issues such as pressure fluctuations, baseline drift, ghost peaks, poor resolution, and retention time shifts.
- Coordinate preventive maintenance and service with vendors when necessary.
Quality & Laboratory Compliance
- Follow GLP, SOPs, and laboratory safety guidelines.
- Maintain analytical records, instrument logs, and calibration documentation.
- Ensure data integrity and compliance with quality standards.
- Support method validation and verification activities.
Required Qualifications
- Bachelor's or Master's degree in Analytical Chemistry, Chemistry, Biotechnology, Biochemistry, Chemical Engineering, or a related field.
- 1-3 years of hands-on experience with HPLC and GC systems (fresh graduates with exceptional practical experience may also be considered).
- Strong understanding of chromatographic principles and analytical chemistry.
- Experience in sample preparation techniques for complex matrices.
- Proficiency in chromatography data systems (e.g., Empower, OpenLab CDS, Chromeleon, LabSolutions, ChemStation, or equivalent).
- Strong analytical, troubleshooting, and documentation skills.
Preferred Skills
- Experience with HPLC and GC
- Knowledge of analytical method development and validation.
- Experience analyzing environmental, fermentation, food, pharmaceutical, or biochemical samples.
- Familiarity with statistical analysis and calibration methodologies.
- Ability to manage multiple samples while maintaining high data quality and turnaround time.
