Position Summary
We are currently recruiting for Full Time Permanent and Part-Time Permanent Registered Nurses (RN) positions in a variety of areas under the Maternal Newborn Department at North York General Hospital.
The departments include:
- Post-Partum Inpatient Unit
- Pediatric Inpatient Unit
- Neonatal Intensive Care Unit

This position contributes to the shared responsibility of ensuring health and safety policies are followed to provide for a healthy environment for patients, staff, physicians, volunteers, and families.
On a practical level, you will
- Demonstrate the ability to function to the full scope of nursing practice per the College of Nurse of Ontario.
- Communicate effectively (written and verbal) with patients/clients, families and other members of the health care team.
- Think critically, set priorities and organize work in response to client/patient needs.
- Demonstrate knowledge of transfers and lifts.
- Be committed to ongoing learning, professional development, and continuous quality improvement.
- Assume a leadership/charge role with demonstrated evidence of self- motivation regarding continuing education in areas of patient assessment, patient education and related Clinical Specialties.
- Foster good public relations and working relationships in a family centered care environment.
- Demonstrate your ability to perform appropriately in emergency situations.
Qualifications
Required Qualifications
- Diploma in Nursing or Baccalaureate Degree in Nursing
- Registered and in good standing with the College of Nurses of Ontario (CNO)
- Current Basic Cardiac Life Support (BCLS) certification
- Recognized breast feeding course
Unit Specific Qualifications
Candidates must meet some or all the following depending on unit assignment.
Post-Partum
- Neonatal Resuscitation Provider (NRP) course (or ability to obtain within 3 months of hire)
- WHO/UNICEF 20 hour Lactation Management Course (preferred)
- Minimum 2 years of maternal newborn nursing experience (preferred)
Paediatric Inpatient
- Paediatric Advanced Life Support (PALS) certification
- Paediatric physical assessment course
- Minimum 1 year of paediatric nursing experience
Neonatal Intensive Care Unit (NICU)
- Neonatal Resuscitation Provider (NRP) course (or ability to obtain within 3 months of hire)
- Acute Care of at-Risk Newborns (ACoRN) course (or ability to obtain within 6 months of hire)
- Perinatal Intensive Care Course (preferred)
- Minimum 1 year of neonatal nursing experience in a community or acute care setting
