Experience: 6+ years in software development with strong DSA expertise; 3+ years leading teams or mentoring engineers/educators
Role Type: Senior Individual Contributor + People Manager (Hybrid Leadership Role)
About Newton School of Technology
Newton School of Technology (NST), founded by IIT alumni, is redefining tech education in India with its 4-year B.Tech in Computer Science and AI. The program emphasizes hands-on learning, strong industry integration, and outcome-focused training.
Within two years, 93% of students have secured paid internships at companies like Razorpay, Sarvam AI, and DRDO. Students also benefit from global exposure through tech treks and mentorship from ICPC World Finalists and experienced engineers from leading
organisations.
We are now scaling our Hyderabad campus and looking for an exceptional academic leader to anchor our DSA function.
About the Role
We are hiring a Senior Academic Lead — DSA to own the DSA charter for our Hyderabad campus. This is a leadership role: you will not only teach the most advanced DSA cohorts but also lead a team of instructors, shape curriculum, and own student outcomes for placements at top product companies.
This is the right role for you if you have built and shipped at scale, you have led engineers or educators before, and you now want to channel that experience into building the next generation of world-class engineers.
Important: This is a full-time, on-campus academic leadership position.
Please note: This opportunity is not part-time, remote, or solely a developer role.
Your Mission:
Lead the DSA & Software Engineering academic vertical at the Hyderabad campus—building a high-performing instructor team, designing industry-aligned curriculum, and ensuring every student graduates with the skills, confidence, and competitive-programming muscle to land roles at top product companies.
Key Responsibilities:
People Leadership & Team Management
Lead, mentor, and grow a team of DSA instructors and teaching assistants at the Hyderabad campus.
- Hire, onboard, and ramp up new instructors — set the bar for teaching quality and technical depth.
- Run weekly 1:1s, performance reviews, and growth conversations; coach instructors on pedagogy, delivery, and content design.
- Drive accountability through clear OKRs tied to student learning outcomes, placement metrics, and engagement scores.
- Build a culture of feedback, ownership, and continuous improvement within the academic team.
- Resolve escalations from students, parents, and internal stakeholders with maturity and judgment.
Academic Strategy & Curriculum Ownership:
- Own the end-to-end DSA & Software Engineering curriculum for the campus — from foundational data structures to advanced system design.
- Continuously benchmark curriculum against hiring standards at top product companies (Google, Meta, Amazon, Razorpay, etc.).
- Define learning outcomes, assessment frameworks, and rubrics that translate into measurable student progress.
- Partner with the central academic team to align Hyderabad delivery with the broader NST academic vision.
Teaching & Technical Leadership:
- Personally deliver advanced lectures on DSA, Full stack knowledge, and Competitive Programming for senior cohorts.
- Conduct code reviews, optimization sessions, and live problem-solving workshops.
- Mentor students through mock interviews, hackathons, and high-stakes placement preparation.
- Build and lead a strong competitive programming culture across the campus (CodeChef, LeetCode, Codeforces, ICPC).
Industry Collaboration & Stakeholder Management:
- Build partnerships with engineering leaders at product companies for guest lectures, live projects, and hiring pipelines.
- Represent the academic team in conversations with university leadership, placement teams, and external partners.
- Stay ahead of industry trends and integrate emerging tools, technologies, and interview patterns into the classroom.
What We're Looking For
Experience
- 8+ years of software engineering experience at product-based companies (SDE-2/SDE-3 or equivalent), with hands-on work on scalable, high-performance systems.
- 3+ years of people management or formal mentorship experience — you have led a team of engineers, instructors, or TAs before.
- Proven teaching or mentorship track record in DSA, System Design, or Software Engineering.
Technical Depth:
- Strong command of C++, Java, and Python.
- Mastery of advanced DSA — Arrays, Trees, Graphs, Dynamic Programming, advanced algorithmic paradigms.
- Demonstrated competitive programming track record (LeetCode, Codeforces, ICPC, or equivalent).
Leadership Capabilities:
- You can hire and develop strong instructors—and have done it before.
- You set high standards and hold the team to them, with empathy.
- You communicate clearly with students, instructors, university leadership, and external partners.
- You think in terms of systems and outcomes, not just lectures.
Education
- Bachelor's or Master's in Computer Science, Software Engineering, or a related field. (M.Tech or PhD is a plus, not a requirement.)
Good to Have:
- Prior experience teaching undergraduate or graduate computer science students.
- Experience setting up or scaling an academic vertical from scratch.
- Familiarity with modern teaching tools and active learning methodologies.
- ICPC regionalist/finalist or equivalent competitive programming credentials.
Why You'll Love This Role:
- Lead a high-impact academic team at one of India's fastest-growing tech-education institutions.
- Work alongside ex-ISRO scientists, PhDs, and senior engineers from top product companies.
- Influence the careers and outcomes of hundreds of students every year.
- Shape an innovation-driven academic culture that values creativity, ownership, and mentorship.
- Be at the front of India's engineering education transformation.
Perks & Benefits:
- Market-competitive compensation with performance-linked growth.
- Leadership ownership of a strategic vertical at a high-growth campus.
- Access to state-of-the-art labs, classrooms, and academic resources.
- Freedom to experiment, innovate, and inspire : both in code and in the classroom.
