Job Description
Title of Job: Graphic Designer
Position Description: The National Indigenous Fire Safety Council (NIFSC) was formed to specifically drive the implementation of standardized fire services, and promote national standards in fire prevention, education, wildfire management, and suppression within Indigenous communities across Canada. The NIFSC works with communities and partner organizations to deliver programs and services to meet the communities’ needs and advance research, practices and policies. The Communications team requires a casual/part time Graphic Designer to support the conceptualization of visuals, layout for events and promotional materials, including illustrations, logos, layouts, and photos, directed at our target audience.
Major Areas of Responsibility:
> Prepare rough drafts, concepts and present ideas based on requirements provided
> Develop illustrations and other designs using software or by hand
> Use the appropriate colors and layouts for each graphic based on brand guidelines
> Work with the leadership team to produce final design
> Test graphics across various media
> Amend designs after feedback
> Ensure final graphics and layouts are visually appealing and on-brand
> Support events, conferences and campaigns as required, both in-person and virtually
Core Required Competencies:
> Proven graphic designing experience
> A strong portfolio showcasing illustration, graphic design, branding, and related creative work
> A creative mindset and the ability to incorporate feedback to continuously improve and rework designs.
> A keen eye for aesthetics and details
> Strong listening and communication skills
> Ability to work methodically and meet deadlines
> Knowledge of the Adobe Creative Cloud graphic design, video editing and/or photography applications as applicable
> Excellent research, organizational and time management skills, with a strong sense of cultural sensitivity
Education, Certification & Experience:
> Bachelor’s Degree and a minimum of four (4) years’ experience as a Graphic Designer or an equivalent combination of education and work-related experience.
> Competency in Microsoft applications and familiarity with design software and technologies (such as InDesign, Photoshop)
Additional Assets:
> Of Aboriginal Heritage
> Experience and knowledge of fire and life safety
> Bilingual in French and English
Terms of Employment:
> Term Employment position from May 2026 to March 31, 2027. This role may be extended given available funding.
> Remote position: work from home
