About the Role

Morepen Laboratories Limited is seeking a Lab Technician for its Medipath R&D Division to support research and development activities related to biochemistry-based assays, reagent preparation, ELISA, and CLIA-based testing. The role requires hands-on laboratory experience, disciplined documentation practices, and the ability to support assay development, evaluation, and routine R&D experiments in a controlled laboratory environment.

Job Purpose To provide technical and laboratory support to the R&D team in execution of experiments, preparation of reagents, handling of samples, and performance of immunoassay and biochemistry-based testing activities, while ensuring compliance with laboratory procedures, safety practices, and documentation requirements.

Key Responsibilities

  • Perform laboratory experiments and testing related to biochemistry, ELISA, and CLIA-based assays as per approved protocols, methods, and instructions.
  • Prepare and maintain reagents, buffers, calibrators, controls, standards, and working solutions required for R&D activities.
  • Support product development, method optimization, trial runs, verification studies, and performance evaluation of diagnostic reagents and assay systems.
  • Carry out sample preparation, dilution, labelling, storage, and handling of test materials in accordance with defined laboratory practices.
  • Assist in generation, recording, compilation, and review of experimental data for development studies.
  • Maintain laboratory notebooks, raw data sheets, worksheets, logbooks, and related records accurately and in a timely manner.
  • Operate and support maintenance of laboratory instruments such as micropipettes, centrifuges, incubators, ELISA readers/washers, luminometers, and related equipment.
  • Monitor stock levels of reagents, chemicals, glassware, consumables, and other laboratory materials; coordinate replenishment requirements.
  • Ensure cleanliness, orderliness, and readiness of the laboratory and workstations.
  • Follow applicable GLP, safety, hygiene, biosafety, and waste disposal practices.
  • Support troubleshooting of assay-related issues including background variation, control drift, reagent inconsistency, pipetting errors, and repeat-test failures.
  • Participate in internal development discussions and provide technical support to R&D scientists during assay development and evaluation.
  • Coordinate with QA, QC, Production, Regulatory, and other internal functions whenever required for development-related tasks.

Required Technical Skills

  • Hands-on experience in biochemistry testing
  • Experience in reagent preparation and buffer preparation
  • Working knowledge of ELISA assay workflow
  • Exposure to CLIA-based testing
  • Good pipetting skills and dilution calculations
  • Understanding of laboratory documentation and data recording practices
  • Familiarity with handling controls, standards, and calibrators
  • Basic troubleshooting capability in test performance and reagent handling
  • Knowledge of routine laboratory equipment and its proper use

Educational Qualification

  • DMLT / B.Sc. MLT / B. Sc in Biochemistry, Biotechnology, Microbiology, Life Sciences, Medical Laboratory Technology, or related field

Experience

  • 2-3 years of relevant hands-on laboratory experience in:
  • Biochemistry-based testing
  • Reagent preparation
  • ELISA
  • CLIA
  • Diagnostic / IVD / assay development environment preferred

Preferred Experience

  • Experience in diagnostic reagent or kit development
  • Exposure to R&D laboratory operatio
