Senior Mechanical Design Engineer

<p>The Mechanical Design Engineer plays a critical role in the design and development of mechanical systems supporting mission-critical data center power distribution products, including low-voltage switchgear and switchboards. This role combines deep technical expertise with project leadership and mentorship to deliver high-performance, reliable, and manufacturable designs in a fast-paced, engineered-to-order environment.</p> <p>Working closely with Electrical Engineering, Manufacturing, Quality, and Supply Chain, this position ensures mechanical designs meet performance, safety, compliance, and serviceability requirements while supporting production, UL certification, and continuous improvement initiatives.</p> <p>&nbsp;</p> <p><strong>Core Responsibilities</strong></p> <ul> <li>Lead mechanical design of low-voltage switchgear and switchboard assemblies, including enclosures, structural frames, barriers, cable management, lifting provisions, ventilation, and service access.</li> <li>Develop 3D models, detailed drawings, and assemblies using SolidWorks; maintain complete manufacturing documentation packages including BOMs, fabrication drawings, and revision control.</li> <li>Support large-frame lineup configuration, shipping splits, installation interfaces, alignment, and maintainability for high-current systems (1200A–6000A class).</li> <li>Collaborate with Electrical Engineering to ensure mechanical layouts support bus, breakers, cable entry, metering, safety, and code compliance.</li> <li>Lead DFM and DFA activities, including modularization, standardization, part reuse, and reduction of custom components.</li> <li>Generate and manage Engineering Change Orders (ECOs), redlines, and deviation requests.</li> <li>Support prototype builds, factory acceptance testing, UL documentation, and certification activities (heat rise, dielectric, functional testing).</li> <li>Mentor junior and mid-level mechanical engineers through design reviews, technical guidance, and standard work.</li> <li>Partner with suppliers and fabricators on sheet metal, machining, welding, painting, gasketing, and assembly processes.</li> <li>Provide shop-floor support, participate in root-cause analysis, and drive corrective actions for build and quality issues.</li> </ul> <p><strong>Additional Responsibilities</strong></p> <ul> <li>Support continuous improvement of mechanical design standards, documentation practices, and release processes.</li> <li>Participate in cross-functional design reviews and risk assessments.</li> <li>Support field feedback, serviceability improvements, and product lifecycle enhancements.</li> <li>Assist with MRB activities and nonconformance disposition when required.</li> </ul> <p><strong>Requirements:</strong></p> <ul> <li>Bachelor’s degree in Mechanical Engineering; Master’s degree preferred.</li> <li>7+ years of experience in mechanical design within engineered-to-order, electrical infrastructure, or industrial product environments.</li> <li>Minimum 1–2 years of hands-on mechanical design experience for low-voltage switchgear or switchboards (1200A–6000A class preferred).</li> <li>Advanced proficiency in SolidWorks and PDM systems.</li> <li>Strong knowledge of sheet metal, machining, structural design, and tolerance control.</li> <li>Experience releasing complete manufacturing packages (drawings, BOMs, ECOs, revision control).</li> <li>Demonstrated ability to mentor engineers and lead technical execution across projects.</li> <li>Ability to read and interpret complex blueprints, schematics, and mechanical assemblies.</li> </ul> <p><strong>Preferred Qualifications</strong></p> <ul> <li>Experience in data center power infrastructure or mission-critical electrical equipment.</li> <li>Background with switchgear OEMs or contract manufacturers.</li> <li>Familiarity with UL witness testing and certification documentation.</li> <li>Working knowledge of UL1062, UL891, NEC, and related safety and compliance standards.</li> </ul> <p>&nbsp;</p> <p><strong>Why Moonshot?</strong></p> <ul> <li><strong>Career Growth</strong>: Build your career at a company defining the future of critical power infrastructure, with direct access to executive leadership and accelerated professional growth.</li> <li><strong>Innovative Culture</strong>: Join a high-performance team that values accountability, innovation, and ownership—where your contributions directly shape the trajectory of the business.</li> <li><strong>AI Data Center Revolution</strong>: Moonshot is at the tip of the spear in the AI data center revolution.
