Job Description
Responsibilities & Key Deliverables
As the Deputy Manager of Utility Maintenance at Mahindra & Mahindra Ltd, you will play a vital role in overseeing the comprehensive maintenance and operational integrity of all utility equipment within the manufacturing unit. Your responsibilities will include:
- Ensuring strict adherence to company policies, industry standards, and statutory regulations by regularly monitoring compliance and conducting audits with relevant authorities.
- Managing the maintenance, repair, and breakdown analysis of critical utility equipment including DG Sets, Compressors, Air Dryers, Hot Water Generators, HVAC systems, AHUs, HT and LT electrical panels, among others.
- Coordinating the planning and execution of preventive maintenance programs to reduce downtime and extend equipment lifecycle.
- Overseeing resource planning and consumption tracking for spares, ensuring availability of critical parts through Fault Mode and Effect Analysis (FMEA) and cost estimation techniques.
- Leading projects related to the installation and commissioning of new machinery with special focus on Water Treatment Plants such as Effluent Treatment Plants (ETP), Sewage Treatment Plants (STP), and RO plants, ensuring compliance with environmental regulations and legal requirements.
- Implementing and promoting energy efficiency and resource conservation initiatives aligned with sustainability goals.
- Driving continuous improvement programs including Kaizen, 5S workplace organization, Quality Control (QC) Stories, and cross-functional teams (CFT) to enhance operational excellence.
- Ensuring compliance with key international standards like ISO 14000, OHSAS 18000, ISO/TS 16949, and ISO 27001, including calibration protocols and development of standard operating procedures (SOPs) and work instructions.
- Collaborating effectively across departments to support manufacturing goals and contribute to a safe, efficient working environment.
Your role will require strong problem-solving skills, an analytical mindset to interpret maintenance data, and leadership capabilities to manage teams and resources efficiently.

The ideal candidate should possess a Bachelor's degree in Technology, with a focus on Mechanical or Electrical Engineering or a related technical discipline. Preferred qualifications include:
- Bachelor of Technology (B.Tech) in Mechanical Engineering.
- Bachelor of Technology (B.Tech) in Electrical Engineering.
- A combination of technical certifications related to utility management, energy efficiency, or project management will be advantageous.
Educational background should demonstrate a solid understanding of engineering principles relevant to utility systems within manufacturing environments. Candidates with additional credentials in environmental management, occupational health and safety, or quality standards such as ISO certifications will be highly regarded.
Continuous learning and professional development in emerging technologies and maintenance methodologies are encouraged to keep pace with industry advancements.
General Experience
The position requires a robust general experience of between 5 to 8 years in industrial utility maintenance, preferably within the manufacturing sector. This experience should encompass the following:
- Hands-on management of utility systems including air compressors, electrical panels, HVAC, water treatment facilities, and backup power sources like DG sets.
- Strong familiarity with maintenance planning, breakdown analysis, resource allocation, and preventive maintenance execution.
- Proven ability to manage teams and coordinate multiple maintenance activities simultaneously under tight deadlines.
- Experience operating within compliance frameworks and industry standards such as ISO and OHSAS to ensure safety and quality.
- Exposure to working with cross-functional teams and implementing continuous improvement initiatives in a manufacturing setting.
- Demonstrated skill in budgeting, cost control, and spare parts management ensuring economic operation of utility systems.
A blend of technical know-how and supervisory experience is essential to succeed in this role and to support the farm division's engineering services department effectively.

- In-depth knowledge and practical experience with Energy Efficient Equipment and technologies that promote sustainability and cost savings within manufacturing operations.
- Hands-on experience handling Water Treatment Plants (ETP, STP, RO) and ensuring their operations are aligned with environmental norms and legal compliances.
- Competence in project management, including the planning and commissioning of new utility machinery ensuring seamless integration with existing systems.
- Familiarity with conducting Failure Mode and Effects Analysis (FMEA) for critical spare parts planning and predictive maintenance strategies.
- Proven record of driving initiatives like Kaizen methodologies, 5S implementation, Quality Control stories, and leading Cross-Functional Teams (CFTs) to foster a culture of continuous improvement.
