Director of Development - Solar (PJM)OverviewA fast-growing, institutionally backed renewable energy developer is expanding its solar platform across the Northeast and Mid-Atlantic. With an accelerating pipeline in PJM and a disciplined approach to capital deployment, the company develops, builds, and operates distributed generation and community solar projects across core U.S. markets.The Director of Development will lead full-cycle solar development across PJM, with a primary focus on the Mid-Atlantic and Northeast. This role owns projects from early-stage origination through Notice to Proceed (NTP), manages a growing development team, and works closely with senior leadership to shape market strategy and portfolio execution.Key ResponsibilitiesLead full-cycle development of DG and community solar projects from origination through NTPSet, manage, and track development stage-gates and associated capital investment decisionsAssess project-level risks, community and stakeholder opposition, and probability of success at each development phaseOwn project schedules, budgets, and portfolio-level delivery across multiple marketsManage and mentor development team members, driving accountability, performance, and moraleEstablish and execute department-level development strategy aligned with company growth objectivesImplement process improvements to streamline development execution and reportingCollaborate cross-functionally with interconnection, real estate, finance, engineering, construction, accounting, and legal teamsNavigate PJM markets with particular emphasis on permitting, interconnection, and regulatory pathwaysLead internal development meetings to allocate resources, communicate priorities, and review progressManage external stakeholders including municipalities, landowners, consultants, and development service providersNegotiate and oversee third-party service agreements supporting development activitiesSupport leadership in evaluating market entry, project investment, and broader growth initiativesQualificationsBachelor's degree in business, engineering, or a related discipline; Master's degree and/or PMP preferred8+ years of experience in renewable energy development, power markets, or a closely related fieldDeep understanding of PJM market dynamics, including interconnection, permitting, and policy frameworksDemonstrated experience leading full-cycle renewable energy projectsProven people leadership experience, including direct team managementTrack record of working closely with senior leadership in a fast-paced, scaling organizationExperience managing external stakeholders, consultants, and vendorsStrong project management, prioritization, and communication skillsHigh attention to detail with the ability to manage multiple projects simultaneouslyAbility to adapt quickly in a dynamic, growth-oriented environmentWillingness to travel up to ~25%LocationFlexible within the Northeast and Mid-Atlantic United States (PJM-focused)Why This Role / Selling PointsSignificant ownership of projects from origination through executionDirect exposure to senior leadership and influence on market and investment strategyLean, growing development team with opportunity to shape processes and cultureStrong pipeline momentum across core PJM markets including the Mid-Atlantic and NortheastPlatform backed by institutional capital with a clear growth trajectory and long-term vision
