About the Opportunity

An excellent client of ours, a growing startup in Ottawa, is seeking a high-caliber Senior Software Engineer to join their core platform team. This software startup builds and operates a high-availability, mission-critical infrastructure in the world of sustainability. As they scale their footprint across North America, you will be responsible for designing and implementing the robust backend services that power this next gen software platform. In essence, this role is centered on high-availability systems, real-time data processing, and hardware-to-cloud communication.

This is a permanent position with one of the region's most exciting startups. They employ a hybrid model consisting of three days/week in-office, therefore, only candidates local to the Ottawa region will be considered.

Duties include but are not limited to:

Architect & Build: Lead the design and development of scalable, resilient microservices using Java and modern frameworks

Cloud Infrastructure: Leverage AWS (or similar public cloud providers) to build serverless and containerized solutions that maintain 99.9% uptime

System Integrity: Optimize high-throughput systems to ensure low-latency communication between our cloud platform and distributed IoT-edge devices

Technical Leadership & Collaboration: Mentor intermediate and junior developers in a team-first environment, collaborating cross-functionally to solve complex challenges and drive collective success at pace

About You

The successful candidate will have the following:

B.Sc. degree or higher in Computer Science, Software Engineering, Mathematics, or similar field

10+ years of back-end Java development experience with a proven track record of deploying production-grade applications on AWS

Extensive experience with microservices and distributed systems, event-driven architecture, etc.

Strong interpersonal and collaboration skills; ability to thrive autonomously as well as within a team

About the Job

Our client is offering a competitive salary ranging from $140,000 to $180,000, plus RSU/equity, vacation allotment, and a comprehensive benefits package.
