Founded out of Y Combinator in 2016, Legalist manages over $1.7 billion for endowments, foundations, and family offices.</p></div><p>Legalist is seeking a <strong>Managing Director, Bankruptcy &amp; Workouts</strong> to lead restructuring, workout, and distressed investment efforts across the platform. This is a high-impact, cross-functional role working closely with senior leadership to protect capital, drive recoveries, and navigate complex legal and financial situations.</p> <p><strong>Responsibilities:</strong></p> <ul> <li>Lead bankruptcy, restructuring, and workout situations across investment portfolios</li> <li>Develop and execute recovery strategies, including litigation, negotiation, and restructuring pathways</li> <li>Step into complex or adversarial situations to protect Legalist’s position as a creditor or investor</li> <li>Partner with investment teams to address distressed or at-risk positions</li> <li>Evaluate distressed and special situations investment opportunities</li> <li>Manage external counsel and advisors in high-stakes matters</li> <li>Identify early warning signs and proactively mitigate risk</li> </ul> <p><strong>Qualifications:</strong></p> <ul> <li>JD preferred</li> <li>8–15+ years of experience in bankruptcy, restructuring, or distressed/special situations investing</li> <li>Background in a top law firm and/or distressed investment platform</li> <li>Deep expertise in U.S. bankruptcy law and creditor rights</li> <li>Strong commercial judgment and ability to operate across legal and investment considerations</li> <li>Proven ability to manage complex, high-pressure situations</li> </ul> <p><strong>Preferred Qualifications:</strong></p> <ul> <li>Experience across multiple asset classes or investment strategies</li> <li>Familiarity with litigation finance or legal asset investing</li> </ul>
