Principal Applied Scientist

For our client, we are seeking a Principal Applied Scientist to join the team of a leader in the Information Technology space. This role will lead work at the intersection of data, AI-enabled capabilities, and scalable technology delivery. You will partner with business, technical, and operational stakeholders to build reporting, surface trends, and translate analysis into action. The position offers the opportunity to strengthen data-driven execution and help teams focus on the metrics that matter most within a technology-driven environment.

Location: Washington, DC - US based candidates only, no visa sponsorship available

Compensation: $224,000 – $336,000 annually

Responsibilities

• Write scalable, production-quality code addressing customer problems
• Collaborate with scientists, engineers, product managers, and customers
• Design and execute sound statistical experiments
• Rapidly prototype AI solutions and evolve them into production models
• Select fitting modeling approaches for various problems
• Validate model behavior with evidence and be open to data-driven adjustments
• Contribute to building responsible, intelligent systems that reason and cite their decisions

Qualifications

• 8+ years of experience in applied science or machine learning
• Master's or Ph.D. in a quantitative discipline or equivalent experience
• Proven ability to transition from prototype to production
• Experience with a range of modeling techniques including large-scale generative models
• Familiarity with modern MLOps practices and tools
• Strong Python programming and knowledge of ML libraries like PyTorch and scikit-learn
• Excellent communication skills for technical and non-technical audiences
• End-to-end ownership mindset with a collaborative and adaptable approach
