Position Summary
Reporting to the Assistant Controller, the Staff Accountant will support the Johston Equipment Accounting team in the day-to-day accounting activities, assist with completing reconciliations in a timely manner and ensure accurate record keeping. This role will be responsible for managing various areas of general accounting functions, including Bank Reconciliations, prepaid expense reconciliations, month-end, quarter end and year end close accounting activities. This role ensures compliance with company policies and accounting standards while providing accurate and timely financial information.
How You’ll Make An Impact
Bank Reconciliations, Pre-Paid Expenses Reconciliations [50%]
- Reconcile bank accounts daily, weekly and monthly. Follow up on reconciling items (from AR/AP) and ensure they are resolved in a timely manner. Escalate any outstanding items with the bank for timely resolution.
- Record journal entries to capture monthly interest income from investment.
- Review & reconcile credit card transactions. Review & update credit card refund transaction schedule. Ensure refunds are processed to the credit card that was used for original purchase, escalate any deviations from the policy.
- Update and distribute monthly Credit Card Dashboard.
- Reconcile the prepaid expense accounts and ensure all transactions are recorded accurately. Coordinate and follow up with various departments as necessary.
- Ensure reconciliations are completed on time to support accurate financial reporting.
General Ledger Management, Reconciliations and Internal Controls [20%]
- Prepare and post journal entries, including accruals, deferrals and adjustments.
- Submit bi-weekly GRNV ageing report to various departments for review and resolution.
- Submit weekly reports for outstanding ageing Q&As to various departments and follow up for resolution.
- Support the assistant controller with ad hoc financial analysis and reporting.
- Prepare and provide supporting schedules, documentation and explanations to auditors as required.
- Identify and suggest process improvements for efficiency.
Inventory Counts, Daily Sales Reporting [25%]
- Support the distribution of daily sales reports in a timely manner.
- Support the Annual Inventory count process for Core, Parts, Rentals, from accounting perspective.
- Support the Inventory counts for Vans and update variances for van counts daily.
- Review and reconcile ST/OT and SF/OF transfers and book entries as needed.
- Ensure adherence to internal controls and execution to mitigate risk. (J-SOX Compliance)
Other Duties [5%]
- Update Monthly Virtual Binder Checklist and follow up with staff to review and sign off the checklist and save their relevant reconciliations in the Virtual Binder.
- Collaborate with external auditors as necessary.
- Attend meetings. (finance town halls, Staff meetings)
- Other duties as required.
What You’ll Bring To The Table
- Bachelor’s degree in accounting, Finance.
- Minimum 2-3 years of experience in accounting.
- Pursuing CPA designation.
- JD Edwards Enterprise One system experience would be an asset.
- Proficiency in Microsoft Excel.
