- 8-hour Evening shift; 3pm - 11:30pm
- Weekend work required; 3 weekend shifts in a 4 week period
Johns Hopkins Howard County Medical Center is a private, not-for-profit, community health care provider, governed by a community-based board of trustees. Since its founding in 1973, the original 59-bed, short-stay hospital has grown into a comprehensive acute care medical center with 226 licensed beds. We specialize in women’s and children’s services, surgery, cardiology, oncology, orthopedics, gerontology, psychiatry, emergency services and community health education. In June 1998, Howard County General Hospital joined Johns Hopkins Medicine. In June 2023, the hospital was renamed Johns Hopkins Howard County Medical Center.
The Constant Observer (CO) is an entry level position that provides direct patient observation in an inpatient setting in order to assure the safety and well-being of the patient under the supervision of the RN. The constant observer is responsible to assist in the plan of care for specific patients related to patient safety and functions to continuously observe patients who are at risk for any type of harm. The constant observer is an integral part of the health care team and works closely with the nursing care team to ensure the patient’s safety.

Education
- High School Diploma or High School Equivalency Diploma
Licensure/Certification:
- Nursing Assistant Certification from the Maryland Board of Nursing required.
- Current CPR certification required.
Knowledge/Skills:
- Ability to respond quickly to aggressive patient behaviors and have the ability to learn and implement high risk patient safety skills.
- Possess clear, effective verbal and written communication, documentation and accountability measures consistent with hospital/departmental standards.
Salary Range: Minimum 16.25/hour - Maximum 25.19/hour. Compensation will be commensurate with equity and experience for roles of similar scope and responsibility. In cases where the range is displayed as a $0 amount, salary discussions will occur during candidate screening calls, before any subsequent compensation discussion is held between the candidate and any hiring authority.
