Underwriter (Remote) (India)

Role Overview

You will be joining as an Underwriter responsible for evaluating and pricing risk across the portfolio. Your role will require a combination of analytical rigor and sound judgment to make decisions that safeguard profitability while facilitating growth.

Key Responsibilities

• Evaluate applications and price risk based on underwriting guidelines
• Analyse financial statements, loss runs, and supporting documentation
• Make decisions to approve, decline, or refer cases within defined risk appetite and authority limits
• Engage in negotiations with brokers, agents, or applicants
• Maintain accurate documentation and reasoning for each decision
• Collaborate with claims, actuarial, and product teams to derive portfolio insights

Required Skills and Qualifications

• Possess at least 3 years of experience in underwriting (commercial, personal, life, or specialty)
• Demonstrate strong analytical skills and judgment in assessing risk
• Familiarity with underwriting platforms and rating systems
• Exhibit excellent written communication skills and ability to document rationale effectively
• Have a working knowledge of relevant regulatory frameworks
• Professional certifications such as CPCU, AU, etc., would be advantageous
