Job Description
Insight Global is seeking an HVAC Technician to support a high-security, mission-critical government facility in Washington, D.C. This technician will be responsible for the reliable operation and maintenance of HVAC, building automation, and life safety systems that support sensitive government operations. The role requires strong diagnostic abilities, experience with large-scale or industrial HVAC systems, and comfort working in a fast-paced, high-clearance environment.

Day-to-Day:
- Conduct routine inspections of all HVAC and engineering systems
- Monitor performance and maintain accurate logs of system operations
- Operate, monitor, and maintain:
- HVAC systems
- Chillers, VAVs, IFUs
- Boilers
- CRAC units
- Utility/conditioned water systems
- Building Automation Systems (BAS)
- Fire/life safety systems
- Troubleshoot mechanical and HVAC issues and implement effective solutions
- Perform preventive and corrective maintenance on chillers, HVAC controls, VAVs, and related equipment
- Use diagnostic and testing equipment to analyze system performance
- Disable/re-arm fire alarm panels as needed
- Respond to emergency situations impacting occupant safety or mission-critical operations
- Mentor and support junior technicians
- Document all work in accordance with site standards, manuals, and operating procedures
- Follow all safety protocols, energy models, and building performance guidelines
Must-Haves:
- Journeyman HVAC License (VA/MD/DC) or VMET certificate
- Ability to obtain & maintain HSPD-12 + Secret Clearance
- Active HSPD-12 & Secret strongly preferred
- 6+ years hands-on HVAC experience (chillers, boilers, package units, CRACs, VAV systems, DDC/pneumatic/automated controls)
- Experience in industrial or large commercial facilities (manufacturing, hospitals, mission critical, etc.)
- Strong O&M background and troubleshooting skills
- Experience with Building Automation Systems (BAS) and controls
- Ability to diagnose and solve complex HVAC and mechanical issues using testing/diagnostic tools
- Experience performing preventive & corrective maintenance
- Ability to read system diagrams, manuals, and manufacturer specs
- Experience working with fire/life safety systems (sprinklers, alarms)
- Strong technical documentation skills (logbooks, findings, PM/CM entries)
- Ability to respond to emergency situations in a mission-critical environment
- U.S. Citizenship required
- HS Diploma or GED
Plusses:
- Technical school HVAC program or recognized apprenticeship
- Experience with steam boilers (gas-fired)
- Experience disabling/rearming fire alarm panels
- Prior White House, federal government, secure facility, or high-clearance environment experience
- Experience mentoring junior technicians
- Familiarity with energy efficiency models or building performance standards
