L’Arche GWDC is a nonprofit organization dedicated to building inclusive communities where people with and without intellectual disabilities live, work, and celebrate life together. In Arlington, Virginia, we operate two residential homes where eight core members (adults with intellectual disabilities) share daily life and receive Home and Community-Based Services.
Position Overview
L’Arche GWDC is seeking a part-time Registered Nurse (RN) licensed in the Commonwealth of Virginia to serve as a Nurse Case Manager. This role is responsible for monitoring the healthcare of core members and providing oversight of medication administration staff and nursing services across our Arlington homes.
The ideal candidate brings experience supporting individuals with intellectual disabilities, strong organizational skills, and a commitment to person-centered, community-based care. This position is placed through Interim HealthCare and works directly with L’Arche.
Key Responsibilities
Healthcare Oversight
- Conduct required assessments (HCMPs, Nursing Assessments) within required timelines
- Maintain accurate, organized medical records (visits, labs, referrals, etc.)
- Coordinate and monitor all healthcare services including appointments, diagnostics, therapies, and preventative care
- Accompany individuals to medical appointments as needed
- Ensure all healthcare protocols are current and reviewed annually by physicians
- Collaborate with staff, providers, pharmacists, and family members on care decisions
- Perform weekly in-person observations of homes and staff
- Participate in team meetings (2/month) and service meetings as requested
- Maintain readiness of first aid kits and medical supplies
- Participate in on-call rotation for nursing notifications
Medication Administration Program
- Oversee and maintain medication administration processes
- Ensure staff complete required training and competency testing
- Review medication errors and provide coaching/retraining
- Audit eMARs weekly for compliance
Training & Development
- Train and delegate nursing tasks to staff
- Develop and implement health-related protocols (falls, seizures, mealtime, etc.)
- Provide corrective guidance and coordinate performance improvements
- Deliver required medical training and in-services
- Lead continuing education sessions at least twice per year
Quality Assurance & Collaboration
- Advise service team on staffing needs for optimal healthcare delivery
- Support continuous quality improvement in health services
- Perform other duties as assigned
Qualifications
- Active RN license in Virginia or Nurse Licensure Compact eligibility
- Minimum 1 year of experience working with individuals with intellectual disabilities (preferred)
- Familiarity with Virginia Department of Behavioral Health and Developmental Services (DBHDS) standards (preferred)
- Strong communication and documentation skills
- Ability to collaborate with interdisciplinary teams, individuals, and guardians
- Detail-oriented with strong organizational skills
Schedule & Compensation
- Part-Time: Approximately 20 hours/week
- 16 hours onsite in residential homes
- Up to 4 hours remote/virtual
- Compensation: $50–$75/hour, based on experience
