Quality and Risk Manager – Independence
The opportunity
As part of the US Independence Risk and Controls team, you’ll provide support across teams involving regulatory matters and independence monitoring activities including the audit quality review program and other independence monitoring programs. You’ll provide in-depth technical analysis to support whether engagement teams appropriately complied with independence requirements in accordance with EY independence policies, professional standards, and regulatory requirements. You’ll utilize technical knowledge and risk management functional skills and service line knowledge to be a key contributor in monitoring and other risk-based analyses relating to independence and risk management issues, policies and procedures with executive level personnel across the Americas and other Global functions.
Your Key Responsibilities
- Utilize broad technical knowledge, risk management functional skills and service line knowledge to identify and communicate policy and procedure matters, violations and concerns
- Discuss and interact with Americas Independence executives and local country or service line leaders to gain consensus around issues and potential actions
- Propose suggestions and actions for improvements to process and/or develop new approaches or deliverables by leveraging Independence, Risk Management and business experience. Identify and report best practices for complying with independence requirements
- Manage functional and business relationships so that expectations are met or exceeded by appropriate communication of what to expect and by when and through listening to the needs of leaders and stakeholders
- Understand key requirements of EY policies and regulators’ independence rules and is also fully knowledgeable about other Risk Management areas outside of their own area
- Keeping abreast of emerging knowledge, trends and lessons learned. Creating and delivering training presentations to communicate new developments and resulting impacts to team members
- Develop and build a network of people within the team and across the firm through regular interactions.
- Identify and extract key internal or external issues and risks related to firm independence, including business relationships, engagement level independence procedures, or other risk management process.

- Ability to identify emerging risks and propose actions to address these
- Using knowledge gained from in-depth client service to drive the development of Independence policy and procedure, provide interpretations and document assessments of violations
- Keen understanding of key requirements of regulators’ independence rules and firm policies and is knowledgeable about Risk Management areas outside of independence
- Foster functional and business relationships through teaming and collaboration to best serve and deliver solutions to leaders and stakeholders
- Strong written and verbal communication skills
- Project management skills to successfully handle multiple projects and initiatives concurrently
- Ability to think strategically and handle complex concepts
- Ability to identify and evaluate new ideas and technologies
- Competent at delivering tough messages to executive leaders within the firm
- Strong listening and interpretation skills
To qualify you must have
- 7+ years of related work experience, including external audit experience
- Bachelor's degree or relevant work experience
Ideally, you’ll also have
- Knowledge and experience of Independence related policies and regulations, to identify appropriate opportunities and solutions to better enable our client serving teams
- Ability to exercise a significant level of independent judgment and discretion when analyzing complex issues and risk across industry and service lines
- Previous Big 4 or large accounting firm experience

- We offer a comprehensive compensation and benefits package where you’ll be rewarded based on your performance and recognized for the value you bring to the business. The base salary range for this job in all geographic locations in the US is $96,300 to $180,100. The base salary range for New York City Metro Area, Washington State and California (excluding Sacramento) is $115,600 to $204,600. Individual salaries within those ranges are determined through a wide variety of factors including but not limited to education, experience, knowledge, skills and geography. In addition, our Total Rewards package includes medical and dental coverage, pension and 401(k) plans, and a wide range of paid time off options.
- Join us in our team-led and leader-enabled hybrid model. Our expectation is for most people in external, client serving roles to work together in person 40-60% of the time over the course of an engagement, project or year.
