Job Summary

The Transport Manager will oversee and optimize transportation operations within the freight forwarding business, with a strong focus on Over Dimensional Cargo (ODC) and project logistics. The role involves planning, execution, and compliance management for complex cargo movements, ensuring safe, timely, and cost-effective delivery.

Key Responsibilities:

1. Transportation & Operations Management

  • Plan and manage end-to-end transportation for domestic and international freight.
  • Coordinate multimodal shipments (road, rail, sea, and air) based on cargo requirements.
  • Monitor daily fleet operations, vendor performance, and shipment tracking.

2. ODC / Project Cargo Handling

  • Plan and execute transportation of Over Dimensional Cargo (ODC) including heavy lifts, breakbulk, and project cargo.
  • Conduct route surveys, feasibility studies, and risk assessments for oversized cargo.
  • Coordinate with engineering teams for load planning, lashing, and securing.
  • Arrange specialized equipment such as hydraulic trailers, modular trailers, cranes, and escort vehicles.

3. Regulatory Compliance & Permits

  • Obtain necessary permissions from authorities (RTO, port authorities, highway departments, police escorts).
  • Ensure compliance with local, national, and international transport regulations.
  • Manage documentation related to ODC movements and customs where applicable.

4. Vendor & Stakeholder Management

  • Develop and manage relationships with transporters, fleet owners, and contractors.
  • Negotiate rates and contracts with vendors to optimize cost efficiency.
  • Coordinate with clients, customs brokers, port authorities, and internal teams.

5. Cost Control & Budgeting

  • Prepare transport budgets and cost estimates for ODC and regular shipments.
  • Monitor expenses and identify cost-saving opportunities.
  • Ensure profitability of transport operations.

6. Risk Management & Safety

  • Implement safety standards for handling heavy and oversized cargo.
  • Identify potential risks in transit and develop mitigation strategies.
  • Ensure compliance with HSE (Health, Safety, and Environment) policies.

7. Team Leadership

  • Lead and supervise transport coordinators, planners, and operational staff.
  • Provide training on ODC handling and compliance procedures.
  • Ensure efficient workflow and performance management.

8. Reporting & Documentation

  • Maintain accurate records of shipments, permits, and operational activities.
  • Generate MIS reports, KPIs, and performance analytics.
  • Provide regular updates to senior management and clients.

Required Qualifications:

  • Bachelor’s degree in Logistics, Supply Chain Management, Transportation, or related field.
  • 5–10 years of experience in freight forwarding/logistics, with strong exposure to ODC/project cargo.
  • Proven experience in handling heavy lift and oversized shipments.
