Job Title: Chemical Engineer API R&D

Location: Kolkata

Department: Research & Development (API)

Reports to: R&D Manager / Head Process Development

Employment Type: Full-Time

Key Responsibilities

• Develop and optimize synthetic processes for APIs at lab and kilo scale in collaboration with chemists and process scientists.
• Design experiments using DoE (Design of Experiments) and perform reaction engineering studies for critical unit operations.
• Evaluate process scalability, safety, and sustainability for seamless technology transfer to the manufacturing plant.
• Perform material and energy balance, process simulation, and equipment sizing.
• Develop and maintain process documentation: PFDs, P&IDs, risk assessments, scale-up reports, and technology transfer dossiers.
• Participate in process hazard analysis (PHA), HAZOP, and safety assessments.
• Troubleshoot scale-up and manufacturing challenges in coordination with the production team.
• Support regulatory documentation including DMFs and QbD filings.
• Liaise with cross-functional teams including Analytical R&D, Quality Assurance, and EHS.
• Well versed about current Lachanophobia in API Manufacturing Like Flow Chemistry, Sono Chemistry & Photo Chemistry.

Qualifications

• B.E./B. Tech or M.E./M. Tech in Chemical Engineering.
• 25 years of experience in API process development or R&D (pharma industry).
• Solid understanding of chemical reaction engineering, kinetics, and unit operations.
• Familiarity with cGMP, ICH guidelines, QbD, and regulatory expectations for APIs.
• Hands-on experience in lab-scale and kilo-lab equipment (reactors, filtration, drying).
• Exposure to simulation tools (Aspen Plus, ChemCAD, or equivalent) is preferred.
