Purpose
Reporting to the Dining Room Supervisor, the Server plays a key role in delivering high-quality dining services to residents in a respectful, safe, and efficient manner. The Server ensures that all meals are served according to dietary needs, personal preferences, and established policies while maintaining a welcoming and clean dining environment that supports the comfort and well-being of residents.

Schedule & Availability Requirements
This position requires flexibility to meet operational and resident care needs. The successful candidate must be available to work every weekend as part of the regular work schedule.
Shifts may vary depending on operational requirements and may include:
- 6:30 a.m. – 2:30 p.m.
- 11:00 a.m. – 7:00 p.m.
Employees may also be required to work weekdays and statutory holidays, in accordance with operational needs and the provisions of the CUPE Collective Agreement.

Key Responsibility:
- To be present in the Dining Room and prepared to receive residents as they arrive for meal at the scheduled mealtimes.
- Serve food to residents observing special diet restrictions, resident preference and follow outlined departmental procedure.
- Clear table, load and safely operate dishwasher. Complete manual ware washing as required.
- Ensuring walking aids(walkers) are stored outside the Dining Room. Walkers are not to stay in the dining room unless they are safely placed and not tripping hazard.
- Prepare table as per facility standards.
- Serve refreshments and catered functions as assigned.
- Advise Dining Room Manager of any supplies to be ordered.
- Adhere to established policies and procedures.
- Communicate through department Communication Log.
- Complete daily Meal Monitor to track Resident food comments.
- Complete task listed on shift routine, and Cleaning Schedules.
- Be knowledgeable of and practice facilities fire and safety programs.
- Follow up on missing Residents with Reception.
- Assist cook with food preparation as required.
- Physical requirements to include stooping, standing, climbing and frequent lifting of a minimum of 40 lbs.
- Server will be facilitating daily, weekly, and monthly scheduled housekeeping duties.
- Able to follow public health/infection control procedures.
- To complete all other duties as assigned.
Qualifications
- Must possess a minimum of 6 months of experience in Food Service as Server, preferably with seniors.
- Current certificate in food handling training from a local board of health or an agency of the board of health or has recently successfully completed an equivalent food handler training program.
- Ability to provide Residents with a professional and High standard of service and to always treat all residents with maximum respect and be cognizant of Residents’ physical and mental challenges.
- Ability to provide an unusual level of patience and tact while dealing with Residents and family request.
- Familiar with WHMIS and safe food handling
- Ability to follow dietary restrictions, guidelines and allergies.
- Provide support setting up Dining Room, serving meal while they are hot and cleaning up after meals.
- Ability to tolerate heat from kitchen area.
- Must be able to perform physical work and lift/push/pull a minimum of 40 lb.
- Physical demands including, standing / walking and/ or sitting for a long period of time.
- Must have dementia training and/or experience working with individuals with dementia.
- Willingness and ability to learn.
- Must possess strong Oral Communication and fluent in English.
- Must possess a valid Smart Serve Certificate.
- Current Basic Cardiac Life Support and First Aid recommended.
- Immunization records and TB test results required.
- Current (within 6 months) Police Record Check / Vulnerable Sector screening.
- Valid N95 Mask fitting certificate.
