Geotechnical Driller

YOUR RESPONSIBILITIES:
As a Geotechnical Driller, your responsibilities will encompass:
- Operating and maintaining truck-mounted, track-mounted, and ATV-mounted drilling rigs and associated equipment.
- Performing soil borings, rock coring, groundwater monitoring well installations, test pits, and other subsurface investigations in accordance with project requirements.
- Collecting, labeling, documenting, and preserving soil, rock, groundwater, and environmental samples for laboratory testing and analysis.
- Working closely with geotechnical engineers, geologists, environmental scientists, and field personnel to execute drilling and sampling programs.
- Reading and interpreting drilling plans, boring location layouts, utility clearances, and project specifications.
- Completing accurate field logs, drilling reports, daily activity reports, maintenance records, and other project documentation.
- Ensuring proper handling, transportation, and storage of samples and equipment.
- Conducting routine inspection, troubleshooting, lubrication, and maintenance of drilling rigs, tooling, and support equipment.
- Mobilizing and demobilizing drilling equipment to and from project sites throughout the region.
- Performing utility clearance and site safety checks before drilling operations begin.
- Maintaining compliance with company safety policies, OSHA requirements, and project-specific health and safety plans.
- Communicating effectively with project managers, clients, contractors, and property owners while in the field.
- Assisting with training and mentoring of drill helpers and junior field personnel.
- Working outdoors in varying weather conditions and on construction sites with uneven terrain.
- Traveling as required to project locations throughout the Mid-Atlantic region.
- Performing additional duties and responsibilities as assigned.
MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS:
To excel in this role, candidates must possess the following qualifications and abilities:
- High school diploma or GED required.
- 3+ years of experience operating geotechnical drilling equipment and performing subsurface investigations.
- Valid Commercial Driver's License (CDL) or ability to obtain one within a specified timeframe.
- Experience performing soil sampling, rock coring, monitoring well installation, and related drilling activities.
- Working knowledge of drilling methods, including hollow-stem auger, mud rotary, and rock coring techniques.
- Ability to read and understand boring location plans, utility mark-outs, and project specifications.
- Familiarity with OSHA safety standards and safe drilling practices.
- Mechanical aptitude and experience performing equipment maintenance and minor repairs.
- Must be capable of lifting up to 75 pounds; walking over rough and uneven terrain; standing for up to 12 hours a day on occasion; bending, stooping, kneeling, and twisting; using hands to grasp and reach; raising hands above the head; sitting; climbing; and balancing.
- Willingness to travel and work overtime, including occasional overnight assignments, as project needs require.
- Excellent communication, organizational, and teamwork skills.
- Safety certifications such as OSHA 10-Hour or OSHA 40-Hour HAZWOPER are preferred.
