Systems Engineer - Transportation Technology Platforms

Location: Flexible in the Washington DC area

Salary: $90,000-$110,000

About the Role

ISR Transport is recruiting a Systems Engineer to support the deployment, operation and continuous improvement of enterprise transportation technology platforms operating across North America.

This role combines infrastructure engineering, systems administration and customer-facing technical support, ensuring highly available cloud and on-premise environments continue to deliver reliable services supporting real-time transportation operations.

Working closely with software engineering, project delivery and operations teams, you'll be responsible for maintaining critical production environments, supporting customers through system upgrades and change control, and ensuring infrastructure remains secure, resilient and available around the clock.

This opportunity will suit an engineer who enjoys troubleshooting complex production systems and working directly with customers operating business-critical transportation technology.

Key Responsibilities

• Support the installation, configuration and ongoing operation of cloud and on-premise transportation technology platforms.
• Monitor, maintain and troubleshoot enterprise infrastructure, servers, applications and communications networks supporting real-time operational systems.
• Act as the primary technical contact for customers, resolving software, hardware and networking issues in accordance with agreed service levels.
• Manage system upgrades, configuration changes, backups and disaster recovery activities while maintaining system availability.
• Produce technical documentation covering network architecture, system configuration, operational procedures and change management.
• Coordinate with software engineering, QA and project delivery teams during software releases, upgrades and production deployments.
• Identify opportunities to improve platform performance, resilience, security and operational efficiency.
• Participate in an on-call support rota providing operational support for 24/7 production environments.

Skills, Experience & Qualifications

• Experience supporting enterprise Windows and/or Linux server environments.
• Strong understanding of networking technologies including TCP/IP, switching, routing, fibre, cellular and remote communications.
• Experience supporting cloud infrastructure alongside traditional on-premise environments.
• Experience working within production environments requiring high availability and strict SLA performance.
• Knowledge of system monitoring, backup, disaster recovery and infrastructure security.
• Experience supporting software deployment, change control and configuration management processes.
• Ability to work directly with customers, translating technical issues into practical operational solutions.
• Experience within Intelligent Transport Systems, transportation technology, operational technology, smart infrastructure or another critical infrastructure sector would be advantageous.
• Bachelor's degree or equivalent technical experience.
