Job Description

DropGenie — Manufacturing Process Engineer (Microfluidic Devices), Montreal, QC

Role Summary

  • DropGenie is seeking a hands-on engineer to support microfluidic device fabrication, process development, testing, and validation at our Montreal lab. You will work directly with our engineering and biology teams to build, characterize, and iterate on our digital microfluidics cartridges
  • This is a technical, execution-focused role for someone with direct industry manufacturing experience, comfortable moving across manufacturing, QC/QA, and cross-functional collaboration in a small, fast-moving startup environment
  • Location: Montreal, QC. Candidate must be legally eligible to work in Canada.
  • Engagement: Full-time
  • Work style: Hands-on, lab-based, cross-functional.
  • Reporting: Director of Engineering; this role works directly with engineering and biology teams

Responsibilities

  • Build, test, and troubleshoot digital microfluidic devices and cartridges
  • Develop and refine in-house fabrication processes; evaluate outsourced manufacturing options
  • Develop and implement test methods for process control
  • Build and run a QC program to track and improve product quality
  • Execute, analyze, and report on microfluidic performance testing
  • Collaborate with biology and engineering teams to integrate feedback into device iterations

Qualifications

  • Degree or diploma in Biomedical Engineering, Mechanical Engineering, Manufacturing Engineering, Materials Science, Physics, or a related field
  • Practical, hands-on problem-solving skills, attention to detail, and organizational ability
  • 3+ years of hands-on industry experience manufacturing and testing microfluidic, medical, microelectronic or similar devices
  • Familiar with liquid handling and measurement/test equipment
  • Capable of working independently and contributing in a small, dynamic startup environment

Preferred

  • Experience working in cleanroom and/or aseptic technique
  • Hands on experience assembling and debugging electromechanical hardware
  • Familiarity with Design of Experiment methods and Six Sigma a plus
  • Familiarity with CAD design tools a plus
  • Experience with laboratory automation, liquid handling systems, or biology workflows
  • Previous work in a startup or multidisciplinary R&D environment

What success looks like in the first 100 days

  • Independently build and test microfluidic cartridges with minimal supervision
  • Develop QC test methods and document results in a consistent, traceable format
  • Contribute to at least one iteration of device design improvements based on test data
  • Help refine or update SOPs for fabrication or testing processes
  • Establish strong working relationships with engineering and biology team members
  • Identify and report key pain points or bottlenecks in current fabrication or testing workflows
