Job Summary

Lays out, fits, and welds various components to assemble mufflers, pipes and catalytic converters to meet production schedules efficiently by performing the following duties.

Essential Duties and Responsibilities: Reasonable accommodations may be made to enable people with disabilities to perform the essential functions, physical demands, or work environment.

Working from a blueprint and route card, selects equipment and plans layout, assembly, and welding.

Lays out, positions, aligns, and fits components together according to blueprint and route card specifications.

Bolts, clamps, and tack-welds parts to secure in position for welding.

Sets up equipment and welds parts, using arc, gas-shielded arc, mig, tig, or gas welding equipment.

Repairs products by dismantling, straightening, reshaping, and reassembling parts.

Inspects parts, measuring as needed, to ensure that all products meet or exceed quality standards. Follows quality procedures to meet QS/TS guidelines including those listed in Station Control Plan.

Completes annual reviews of OSHA required training classes as assigned by supervisor.

Reports all safety malfunctions as well as any near hits or injuries immediately to supervisor.

Maintains a high standard of housekeeping in the department. Performs clean up duties in work area as assigned.

Completes all necessary paperwork such as job cards, production and inventory tickets, and other data as required.

Performs other duties as assigned.

QUALIFICATIONS To perform this job successfully, an individual must be able to perform each essential duty satisfactorily. The requirements listed below are representative of the knowledge, skill, and/or ability required. Reasonable accommodations may be made to enable individuals with disabilities to perform the essential functions.

Previous experience as a mig welder preferred. Must complete Walker in-house certification process.

LANGUAGE SKILLS

Ability to read and comprehend blueprints, simple instructions, short correspondence, and memos or other written documents such as safety rules, operating instructions, and procedure manuals. Ability to write simple correspondence. Ability to interact cooperatively with supervision and co-workers.

MATHEMATICAL SKILLS

Ability to add, subtract, multiply, and divide in all units of measure, using whole numbers, common fractions, and decimals. May be required to convert decimals to fractions or vice versa. Ability to compute rate, ratio, and percent. Ability to use and interpret measuring gauges.

REASONING ABILITY

Ability to apply common sense understanding to carry out instructions furnished in written, oral, or diagram form. Ability to deal with problems involving several concrete variables in standardized situations. Ability to interpret blueprint drawings to determine proper type, placement, and amount of weld.

CERTIFICATES, LICENSES, REGISTRATIONS

Welding Certification (periodic re-certification may be required)

Physical Demand & Work Environment:

  • Often required to sit and use hands and fingers to handle or feel
  • Frequently required to stand, walk, reach with arms and hands, climb or balance, and to stoop, kneel, crouch, or crawl and lift up to 50 lbs.
  • Vision ability required include close vision
  • Exposed to moving mechanical parts and vehicles
  • Noise level in the work environment is usually moderate to high.
