Educational Technology Specialist, Alpha - $120,000/year USD

Crossover
Full Timemid
Chantilly, Virginia, USPosted April 17, 2026

Job Description

  • On-site position at an Alpha campus located in Lake Forest CA, Palo Alto CA, Piedmont CA, San Francisco CA, Santa Monica CA, Greenwich CT, Chicago IL, Boston MA, New York City NY, or Chantilly VA (relocation assistance available)
  • Annual salary of $120,000, disbursed weekly. Health, dental, and vision coverage begins on day one
  • Daily instruction supported by AI-driven tools and adaptive learning platforms

You know that 20 minutes of diagnostic-driven reading instruction delivers more progress than 90 minutes of scripted lessons, and your student outcomes confirm it. You've seen children overcome phonics barriers not because a curriculum dictated the next step, but because you identified the precise gap yourself. If building lessons directly from live student data feels like opportunity rather than burden, this role deserves your attention.

Alpha's reading instruction operates on one core principle: every minute counts. Your 20-minute workshops target exactly what individual students require right now, not what a predetermined schedule assumes they need. You'll evaluate reading proficiency, organize focused groups, and provide high-impact structured literacy teaching (phonics, fluency, comprehension) to children ages 4-7 that produces measurable weekly advancement. AI-driven adaptive platforms work alongside you, producing performance insights you'll apply to refine the next day's instruction before the current session concludes.

This position expands over time. During your first year, you're immersed in classroom work: facilitating workshops, conducting motivational sessions that transform hesitant readers into enthusiastic learners, and delivering detailed observational feedback to the technology team improving Alpha's AI literacy systems. As these platforms scale and your input informs their evolution, your influence reaches beyond your immediate students. You'll contribute to building a reading framework that functions across multiple campuses, converting what you accomplish with 15 children into a scalable model serving hundreds.

If you've dedicated your career to demonstrating that structured literacy produces results and you're prepared to combine that knowledge with technology that extends your reach, this is where your influence transcends a single classroom.

What You Will Be Doing

  • Creating and facilitating 20-minute reading workshops informed by your own diagnostic evaluation of each student's reading proficiency and specific needs
  • Leveraging AI-generated performance analytics to modify groupings and instructional priorities between sessions, not exclusively during quarterly evaluations
  • Conducting motivational sessions that cultivate intrinsic reading motivation, incorporating age-appropriate gamification and personalized goal-setting with K-2 learners
  • Field-testing AI literacy platforms during live workshops, then delivering structured technical feedback to the development team on functionality and effectiveness
  • Monitoring quantifiable progress markers (fluency improvements, decoding advancement, accuracy gains) and applying these metrics to refine instructional methods weekly

What You Won’t Be Doing

  • Implementing a scripted or pre-packaged reading curriculum. You assess student needs and create instruction independently.
  • Conducting 60-90 minute lecture-format literacy sessions. Instruction is brief, targeted, and high-energy.
  • Working exclusively with below-level readers. You'll teach all K-2 students regardless of current reading ability.
  • Functioning separately from technology systems. AI adaptive platforms are integrated into your daily instruction, not supplemental.
  • Postponing instructional adjustments until quarterly data cycles. You respond immediately based on current performance data.

Educational Technology Specialist Key Responsibilities

Advance early elementary students to grade-level reading proficiency using adaptive, AI-supported structured literacy methods.

Basic Requirements

  • Bachelor's degree (any field)
  • Master's degree in reading instruction OR structured literacy certification (Orton-Gillingham, Wilson Reading System, IMSE, CERI, LETRS, Neuhaus, UFLI, or equivalent)
  • 2+ years of full-time K-2 structured reading instruction within a school or clinical environment during the past 5 years, utilizing systematic phonics or structured literacy approaches
  • Capacity to independently design reading lessons and articulate your instructional content and methodology without dependence on published programs
  • Availability to work on-site at an Alpha campus (Lake Forest CA, Palo Alto CA, Piedmont CA, San Francisco CA, Santa Monica CA, Greenwich CT, Chicago IL, Boston MA, New York City NY, or Chantilly VA; relocation assistance provided)
  • Commitment to daily use of AI and adaptive learning technologies and flexibility as these tools develop
  • Legal authorization to work in the United States without requiring visa sponsorship

Nice-to-have Requirements

  • Proficiency with diagnostic reading assessments (e.g., DRA, DIBELS, AIMSweb) for creating differentiated instructional groups
  • Documented history of measurable student reading progress with specific data examples (e.g., advanced 12 students from Level C to Level G within one semester)
  • Experience partnering with edtech development teams, product groups, or instructional design professionals on platform creation
  • Background in startup, micro-school, or alternative education settings where you established systems rather than executed existing ones
