Job Description

Position Summary:

The Plant Manager is responsible for the full operational leadership of the POS Biosciences manufacturing facility, ensuring the plant runs safely, efficiently, and in compliance with all applicable regulatory and food safety standards. Reporting directly to the CEO or delegate, this role holds end-to-end accountability for production performance, asset reliability, quality outcomes, cost management, and people leadership. The Plant Manager translates organizational strategy into day-to-day operational execution, drives a culture of continuous improvement and accountability, and ensures all plant functions align with POS Biosciences' business objectives and regulatory requirements.

Responsibilities & Expectations:

  • Leads all plant operations end-to-end, with direct accountability for production scheduling, throughput optimization, capacity planning, and on-time delivery performance.
  • Applies strong mechanical and technical knowledge to oversee equipment reliability, preventive and corrective maintenance programs, and capital asset management across the facility.
  • Authorizes and leads plant and equipment changes, capital projects, and engineering initiatives from concept through commissioning, ensuring minimal disruption to production.
  • Champions a strong safety culture; ensures full compliance with OH&S legislation, co-chairs the OH&S committee, leads incident investigations, and ensures all employees have the training and resources required to work safely.
  • Ensures compliance with GMP, HACCP, SOP, and all applicable food safety and regulatory requirements; leads corrective actions for deviations and monitors quality performance across operations.
  • Drives a continuous improvement culture through LEAN methodologies, data-based decision making, and structured KPI development and tracking.
  • Develops and manages the plant budget; controls costs, improves margins, and provides accurate financial reporting to senior leadership.
  • Builds and sustains high-performing teams through recruitment, performance management, talent development, succession planning, and clear accountability structures.
  • Promotes organizational values, integrity, and a performance-driven culture at all levels of the plant.
  • Collaborates cross-functionally with Quality, R&D, Supply Chain, and Commercial teams to support business development, costing, and operational scalability.

Desired Qualifications:

  • Post-secondary education in a mechanical, industrial, or manufacturing engineering field, or equivalent technical education and experience.
  • 8–10+ years of progressive leadership experience in a manufacturing environment, with demonstrated hands-on technical and mechanical expertise.
  • Proven track record managing plant operations including maintenance, equipment reliability, and capital project execution in a regulated production environment.
  • Experience in food manufacturing or a similarly regulated industry is strongly preferred; knowledge of GMP, HACCP, and food safety regulations is an asset.
  • LEAN, Six Sigma, or continuous improvement certification or equivalent applied experience is an asset.
  • Strong financial acumen with experience developing and managing operational budgets.
  • Excellent leadership, communication, and problem-solving skills; ability to lead through complexity and drive accountability at all levels.
  • Proficiency with Microsoft Office suite; familiarity with ERP or production management systems is an asset.
  • Ability to work in both office and plant environments, including exposure to industrial hazards and light to moderate lifting requirements (10–20 kg).
  • Experience with working in a unionized environment considered an asset.
