ConnectPlus is a 501(c)3 nonprofit based in Virginia in the United States, founded in March 2020 by a group of high school and college students. We seek to make high-quality English education easily accessible to all. Since 2020, ConnectPlus has recruited 500+ tutors worldwide and taught 600+ students across China, logging 10,000+ hours of English instruction.

HSE is ConnectPlus' English-tutoring branch. HSE is happy to provide verification of volunteer hours (for community service requirements), volunteer certificates, and recommendations. Volunteering experiences with HSE can also be submitted as part of resumes for college and job applications.

Are you looking for a meaningful way to strengthen your resume or college application this summer? Do you want to share a topic you care about while gaining teaching experience? ConnectPlus is now accepting applications for tutors to design and teach their own summer courses.

We welcome tutors from any field. In the past, we have focused primarily on humanities and social sciences, but this year, we will be accepting courses in math and natural sciences.

Tutors may choose between teaching either a lecture-style public course, which has no enrollment limit and lighter student expectations, or a small-group seminar, where students are expected to attend regularly, complete assignments, and participate actively. Courses will be divided into Beginner (A2+) and Advanced (B1+) levels.

Job Description

• Design and teach an online course on any topic.
• Teach 1 to 2 classes per week between July 15 and August 25, 2025, totaling at least 5 sessions.
• Submit a brief course proposal using the attached template.
• Assign and grade all student assignments, or request a teaching assistant.
• Write individual comments for each student after the course. A template will be provided.

Additional Information & Perks

• This is an unpaid position.
• The role may count as either an internship, for tutors who are 18+ with U.S. work authorization, or a volunteer opportunity, but not both.
• Volunteer certificates and recommendations will be available upon request.
• Relatives and friends of humanities tutors will receive free and priority access to all ConnectPlus offerings.
• Tutors will gain valuable teaching experience for their resumes and school applications.

Application Process

• Apply on Idealist, and we'll reach out to schedule an interview!
• If you pass an interview, we'll send you a course proposal to fill out.
• Once you've filled out the course proposal and we've finalized the course, we'll begin advertising your course and opening it for student signups!

Possible humanities / social science course topics include literature, philosophy, history, sociology, anthropology, political science, art history, film studies, linguistics, gender studies, media studies, cultural studies, and regional studies. Original and creative topics are encouraged.
