Job Description
Codelogicx is a SaaS company with a 150-engineer org and an AWS Partnership (Azure partnership incoming). Platform Engineering owns the cloud infrastructure, CI/CD, observability, and reliability foundation that every product team at CX builds on. We're hiring an Engineering Manager to lead one of our platform squads.
This is a hands-on management role. You'll spend the majority of your time leading a team of 4–8 platform engineers running 1:1s, owning delivery, shaping operational excellence, hiring, and growing people but you will stay close enough to the work to review IaC, make architecture calls, and participate in incident response when it matters. If you want a pure people-only role, this isn't it. If you'd rather be heads-down writing Terraform 90% of the time, our Senior Platform Engineer (L4 IC) role is a better fit.
How the role splits
- 60% Management & Delivery: You run weekly 1:1s, own performance and growth for each engineer, and manage team capacity and roadmap delivery.
- 40% Hands-on Technical: You review critical IaC and architecture decisions, participate in major incident response, contribute to RFCs/ADRs, and stay credible enough to make technical judgment calls. You are NOT expected to be on the primary on-call rotation (escalation only).
Roles and responsibilities
People (primary responsibility)
- Manage 4–8 platform engineers (L1–L4). Run weekly 1:1s, bi-annual performance reviews, and individual development plans.
- Own hiring for the team. Define role requirements for cloud, SRE, and DevSecOps specializations. Run interviews and improve our loop.
- Ensure on-call rotations are fair, sustainable, and don't burn people out. Track and act on-call load.
- Build a blameless postmortem culture. Address interpersonal issues directly and early.
Process (primary responsibility)
- Define and own team operational processes: incident management (severity levels, escalation paths, comms templates), change management, on call rotation design, and runbook standards.
- Drive a blameless postmortem discipline where action items are tracked to completion not filed and forgotten. Surface recurring themes to leadership.
- Continuously improve operational maturity: reduce toil, evolve processes based on postmortem trends and SLO drift.
- Own the governance muscle release governance, change logs, access controls in alignment with SOC2 / ISO27001 requirements.
- Standardize how the team communicates operational health: dashboards, weekly ops reviews, and stakeholder updates that are consumed, not ignored.
Delivery & operations
- Own team delivery against quarterly commitments. Team SLO compliance ( 99.9% infrastructure availability), sprint commitment rate above 85%, and incident MTTR targets are on your KPI sheet.
- Manage sprint cadence and remove blockers.
- Balance feature work with operational toil reduction. Don't let the team drift into 100% firefighting.
- Manage cloud cost implications of the team's decisions. Track team's infrastructure spend and flag when we're off-track.
Technical (hands-on)
- Review and approve significant cloud architecture decisions, IaC changes, and CI/CD pipeline modifications.
- Participate in Sev-1/Sev-2 incident response as incident commander or senior engineer. Drive postmortems to completion.
- Contribute to platform RFCs and ADRs. Make pragmatic build-vs-buy calls for infrastructure services.
- Evaluate cloud services and tooling choices for the team. Align with CX's AWS Partnership and incoming Azure capabilities.
Strategy & stakeholders
- Contribute to the platform roadmap from capacity, reliability, and cost perspectives.
- Partner with development team leads to understand infrastructure needs and manage expectations with internal consumers of the platform.
- Escalate up with context and proposed solutions never just problems.
Requirements
Must-haves
- 6+ years of platform, DevOps, SRE, or cloud infrastructure experience, with at least 2 years managing platform engineers directly.
- Deep, current hands-on expertise in AWS (primary) you've designed and operated production infrastructure at scale. Azure exposure is a plus given our incoming partnership.
- Strong IaC fluency Terraform is our primary tool. You can review a PR and tell us why it's wrong.
- CI/CD strategy experience you've designed pipelines for enterprise-grade release management, not just configured Jenkins jobs.
- SRE fundamentals SLIs/SLOs, error budgets, incident command, postmortems. You've owned availability as a number you're measured on.
- DevSecOps instincts you think about security as an enabler, not a gatekeeper. Comfortable with policy-as-code and SOC2/ISO27001 compliance automation.
- Deep Kubernetes expertise you've run production-grade k8s at multi-cluster scale. Strong command of workload isolation, networking (CNI, service mesh), autoscaling, cluster upgrade strategy, and cost optimization. You've owned a Sev-1 k8s incident end-to-end, not just observed one. This is non-negotiable a large share of our platform runs on Kubernetes and we need a manager who can credibly steer k8s architecture decisions.
- Track record of building and retaining platform teams. Evidence of people you've grown into senior roles.
- AWS certifications (Solutions Architect Pro, DevOps Pro) given our partnership, these help with client-facing work.
- FinOps / cloud cost optimization experience.
Nice-to-haves
- Experience building Internal Developer Platforms (IDPs) or golden-path tooling for product teams.
