Lab Technician – Cable Testing Laboratory

Job Summary

The Lab Technician is responsible for conducting physical, electrical, and thermal testing of PVC insulated wires and power cables as per IS 694 and IS 1554 standards. The role includes operating laboratory instruments, maintaining testing records, ensuring compliance with BIS/NABL requirements, and supporting quality assurance activities in the cable manufacturing process.

Key Responsibilities1. Testing Activities

• Perform routine testing of wires and cables as per IS 694 & IS 1554 standards.
• Conduct electrical tests such as:
• Conductor Resistance Test
• High Voltage Test
• Insulation Resistance Test
• Continuity Test
• Conduct physical and thermal tests such as:
• Tensile Strength Test
• Elongation Test
• Heat Shock Test
• Hot Deformation Test
• Flame Retardant Test
• Verify insulation thickness, conductor diameter, and overall cable dimensions.

2. Equipment Handling

• Operate laboratory equipment and testing instruments safely and accurately.
• Ensure proper handling of:
• HV Test Machine
• Tensile Testing Machine
• Spark Tester
• Hot Air Oven
• Micrometer / Vernier Caliper
• Resistance Meter
• Perform daily equipment checks and report abnormalities.

3. Documentation & Reporting

• Maintain testing records, observation sheets, and test reports.
• Record all test data accurately in laboratory formats/software.
• Maintain calibration and traceability records of instruments.
• Support preparation of BIS/NABL audit documents.

4. Quality & Compliance

• Follow standard operating procedures (SOPs) and laboratory safety guidelines.
• Ensure compliance with BIS, NABL, and internal quality requirements.
• Assist during internal and external audits.
• Identify non-conforming samples and report deviations to senior staff.

5. Production & Quality Support

• Coordinate with production and quality departments for sample collection and testing.
• Support raw material inspection and in-process quality checks.
• Help in batch approval/rejection based on test results.

Required Qualification

• ITI / Diploma in Electrical, Mechanical, Electronics, or related field.
• Freshers and experienced candidates both can apply.

Required Skills

• Basic knowledge of electrical cable testing.
• Understanding of IS 694 & IS 1554 standards.
• Ability to use measuring instruments and testing machines.
• Basic computer knowledge (MS Excel, reporting).
• Good documentation and observation skills.

Experience

• Fresher to 3 years experience in cable testing laboratory preferred.

Working Conditions

• Laboratory and production floor environment.
• Handling of testing machines and electrical equipment.
• Use of PPE and adherence to safety procedures mandatory.

Pay: ₹25,000.00 - ₹60,000.00 per month
