We are seeking a skilled and adaptable Sous Chef to support the culinary operations of a touring show. Working under the direction of the Kitchen Manager, the Sous Chef will assist in menu execution, food preparation, and kitchen supervision while ensuring the highest standards of quality, hygiene, and efficiency.

This is a hands-on role requiring both culinary expertise and strong organizational skills. The ideal candidate is passionate about food, thrives in a multicultural, fast-paced environment, and is eager to contribute to the well-being of an international company of artists and crew.

The Sous Chef will have the opportunity to:

  • Assist the Kitchen Manager in preparing and serving creative, balanced meals for breakfast, lunch, and dinner (buffet style), accommodating a variety of cultural and dietary needs.
  • Support menu development and contribute creative ideas for new recipes and themed meals.
  • Oversee daily food preparation and assist in supervising local temporary staff during service, fostering teamwork and efficiency.
  • Prepare and manage daily orders for designated suppliers and ensure proper storage, rotation, and use of food inventories.
  • Ensure cleanliness, safety, and hygiene of kitchen and dining areas in line with HACCP guidelines and/or local health regulations.
  • Monitor kitchen equipment and promptly report any maintenance needs to the Kitchen Manager.
  • Collaborate with other touring departments to meet schedule changes, special events, and evolving needs.
  • Deliver outstanding hospitality and service to the touring company, promoting a positive dining experience.
  • Participate in the setup, tear-down, and transfer of the kitchen between markets, ensuring that all equipment is safely packed, transported, and reinstalled.
  • Foster a collaborative, respectful, and safe working environment aligned with Cirque du Soleil Entertainment Group’s values.
  • Build and maintain strong working relationships with internal and external stakeholders.
  • Perform other job-related duties as assigned.

The ideal candidate will have the following qualifications:

  • Required: Availability to tour internationally full-time and work in foreign countries.
  • Vocational diploma in Culinary Arts or equivalent professional training (e.g., ITHQ in Quebec or equivalent).
  • Minimum 3 years of professional culinary experience in high-volume kitchens (buffet service experience an asset).
  • Solid knowledge of nutrition and ability to accommodate diverse dietary needs.
  • Certification in hygiene and food safety.
  • Strong organizational skills with efficiency and speed of execution.
  • Ability to work in confined spaces and variable temperatures.
  • Excellent teamwork and communication skills, with the ability to work under pressure in a fast-paced environment.
  • Strong service orientation and a collaborative, adaptable approach.
  • Ability to perform the essential functions of the job including, but not limited to: crouching, kneeling, standing, lifting, sometimes for extended amounts of time. Reasonable accommodations may be made to enable individuals with disabilities to perform the essential functions.
