Job Overview
We are looking for an Laboratory Animal Technician I to join our Insourcing Solutions team located in Poolesville, MD.
As Laboratory Animal Technician I, you will be responsible for the daily husbandry, health monitoring, and documentation of research animals. Key duties include providing specialized care, maintaining environmental sanitation, managing inventory and indentification records, and ensuring strict adherence to bio-safety and bio-security protocols. This role may also support pre-clinical research by assisting veterinary staff with technical procedures, including dosing, surgical support, and post-operative monitoring.
Additional responsibilities include:
- Monitoring daily animal health and welfare while performing daily animal health observations.
- Animal husbandry duties include daily water bottle /automatic water line and cage checks; provide appropriate food and water; environmental enrichment; perform cage changing and/or cage cleaning as required.
- Maintain records related to the animal and facility functions; record animal health concerns and report as needed.
- Assists with restraint, handling, and manipulation of various animal species.
- Receive, inspect, and house incoming animals.
- Other duties will include general housekeeping, in addition to reviewing, comprehending, and complying with all SOPs and quality assurance standards pertaining to specific area.
Job Qualifications
The following are minimum requirements related to the Laboratory Animal Technician I position.
- A candidate that possesses a high school diploma or GED required.
- Experience with lab animals, specifically non-human primates, or any animal experience preferred but not required.
- Must be able to obtain the AALAS certification at the ALAT level within 6 months of eligibility.
The pay for this position is $22.00 USD per hour. Please note that salaries vary within the range based on factors including experience, skills, education, certifications, and location.
