The Opportunity

The Estimating Team Leader oversees the daily operations, performance, and development of the estimating team. This role ensures accurate, timely, and strategic estimates that support outside sales.  The leader drives workflow efficiency, coaches estimators, and partners cross‑functionally with sales to improve processes, tools, and outcomes.   

The ideal candidate has advanced skills, knowledge, and understanding of manufacturer product lines and HVAC systems. The role includes assisting with take-offs of equipment selection, pricing, strategizing and estimating larger, targeted projects, and supporting contractor sales teams. The role may include occasional visits to customer offices, job sites, and factory training sessions.

Key Responsibilities

Team Leader Responsibilities

  • Mentor team members on best practices, assist in training new employees, and review estimates prepared by team members as needed
  • Lead Estimating Team meetings on a weekly basis
  • Develop and implement estimating processes using technology to enhance performance and efficiency
  • Collaborates with departments and sales teams to drive successful bids
  • Coaches team, completes regular performance reviews and goal setting
  • Monitor team workload and assigning of projects
  • Tracks team performance based on project credit splits and team goals

Estimating Responsibilities

  • Create and maintain job files for each project
  • Read, understand, and interpret building plans and specifications
  • Create and deliver project bids including estimating, take-offs, product selection, and quotations
  • Support project development through proposals, value engineering, and redesigns
  • Managing multiple complex projects estimates simultaneously
  • Proficient in estimating complex HVAC projects with limited direction
  • Assist outside sales personnel in selling HVAC equipment and support contractor sales teams
  • Perform plan take-offs, generate material take-offs, and develop equipment cost estimates
    • Ability to identify and propose value add solutions
  • Understands market conditions and ability to strategically position proposals for success
  • Works directly with Manufacturers to develop competitive pricing
  • Demonstrates understanding of how to properly select, price, and quote engineered equipment
  • Investigate concerns, implement corrective actions, and communicate effectively to maximize customer satisfaction
  • Attend and participate in meetings as required
  • Provide excellent customer service
  • Communicate with owners, architects, MEP consultants, contractors, and internal sales teams
    • Develop and grow relationships with customers, contractors, project engineers, and manufacturers
    • Determine project requirements, constraints, and internal responsibilities to meet customer expectations
    • Coordinate with contractor and engineering sales teams to resolve technical and project-related questions
    • Participate in occasional job site visits, customer meetings, and factory training sessions
    • Follow company policies and procedures and maintain professional conduct and customer service standards
  • Perform other related duties as assigned by Sales Manager

Qualifications

  • High school diploma or equivalent plusfifteenyears related work experience, or  
  • Bachelor’s degree plus minimum ten years related work experience
  • Working knowledge of MEP consulting, architecture, design, CAD, general contracting, mechanical contracting, or construction industry
  • Plan take-offs, estimating, quotations, and HVAC equipment manufacturer experience
  • Ability to prioritize, multitask, and manage multiple projects in a fast-paced environment

Technical Skills

  • Microsoft Office (Excel, Word, Outlook, PowerPoint)
    • Bluebeam Revu, estimating software and manufacturer software experience

Work Environment and Physical Demands

Work is performed in both office and field environments. Regular use of a computer, keyboard, and phone. Frequently standing, walking, and sitting. Occasional climbing, balancing, stooping, kneeling, crouching, or crawling. Ability to lift and/or move up to 25 pounds. Requires close vision, distance vision, peripheral vision, depth perception, and focus adjustment.
