Canada West Veterinary Specialists (CWVS), a privately owned and operated, multi-disciplinary emergency and specialty hospital is looking for an exceptional Veterinary Assistant to join our Oncology department.

The first veterinary specialty hospital in Metro Vancouver, CWVS is a state-of-the-art Level VECCS level 1 and VetCOT Trauma centre certified facility. We have 30+ veterinarians in the following disciplines: emergency and critical care, surgery, neurology, radiology, internal medicine, oncology, and cardiology. In addition to a rehabilitation department, 6 ORs, 2 isolation wards, and a newly redesigned ER, ICU, and Wards, we are equipped with 2 digital radiology suites, a CT, and a 1.5T MRI.

The Oncology Service Assistant assists the Specialist and Technician as required, participates in client communications under the supervision of the Specialist, and liaises with other services to ensure the smooth functioning of the Service within the hospital.

DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILTIES

  • Ensures supply inventory is sufficient to meet the demands of the Service.
  • Coordinates admissions and discharges of patients to the Service.
  • Greet and offer assistance to clients.
  • Responsible for ensuring daily communication with clients as well as facilitating communication between clients and hospital medical team.
  • Willing to go above and beyond to exceed client expectations.
  • Executes follow-up calls for all discharged patients.
  • Ensures procedures are documented so that accurate invoicing can be done.
  • Ensures all equipment is properly maintained and documented.
  • Assists in restraining and helping the Specialist or Technician efficiently perform procedures.
  • Responsible for keeping the patient exam room and workspaces clean and organized.
  • Must be willing to become knowledgeable of equipment and processes specific to the Oncology service.
  • Willing to assist in Oncology service procedures including those that may have exposure to chemical agents whilst wearing all necessary PPE.
  • May be asked to assist in patient monitoring under the supervision of the Specialist or Technician.
  • Help facilitate a positive work environment.
  • Performs other duties as required.
  • As a member of the overall CWVS team, you may be required to assist in other areas of the hospital when your service is not in need of you or if the doctor on the service is away. This could involve working any shift within the 24hour operating day of the hospital including weekends and holidays.

KNOWLEDGE, SKILLS AND ABILITIES

  • Strong organizational skills with ability to recognize and establish priorities.
  • Ability to remain calm during emergencies.
  • High level of professionalism.
  • Excellent communication skills.
  • Competent animal restraint and handling.
  • Experience and understanding of preparation of patients for procedures, sterile techniques etc.
  • Good working knowledge of current client software.
  • Attention to detail.
  • Ability to work both independently and as part of a team in high-paced environment.

QUALIFICATIONS AND EXPERIENCE

  • Graduate of a Veterinary Assistant program, or equivalent experience.
  • Customer service experience is an asset.

WORKING HOURS

  • 4 days a week; from Monday to Friday
  • 10-hour days; 8:00 am to 6:30 pm

Job Types: Full-time, Permanent

Pay: $21.00-$25.00 per hour
