Government Liaisoning an Public Sector Consultant
Bharatiya Vyapar MahotsavJob Description
The Bharatiya Vyapar Mission is a long-term national initiative launched by CAIT — the world's largest traders' organisation, with 48,000+ trade associations and 9 crore+ members — in pursuance of the Prime Minister's vision of Atmanirbhar Bharat and Vocal for Local. The Mission is a sustained, multi-year programme of trade events, business platforms, and market activation drives designed to strengthen India's domestic commerce and expand its global trade footprint.
Bharatiya Vyapar Mahotsav 2026 — India's largest multi-sectoral trade expo — is the Mission's flagship inaugural event. With 2,000+ exhibitors, 10 lakh+ visitors, 2 lakh+ B2B delegates, and 23 industry zones under one roof, it is India's most ambitious trade platform. Subsequent events under the Mission will follow, creating a permanent, recurring national commerce infrastructure.
Role Summary
The Government Relations & Partnerships Consultant is a strategic, outward-facing role. Your core mandate is to articulate the BVM vision to Central and State government stakeholders, build deep institutional relationships, and convert those relationships into tangible partnerships — endorsements, co-branding, scheme alignment, institutional participation, and policy-level engagement. You are not processing paperwork; you are positioning BVM as the platform where India’s trade policy agenda meets on-ground execution.
Key Responsibilities
Vision Communication & Government Engagement
- Translate the BVM vision into a compelling narrative tailored for government audiences — Ministers, Secretaries, Joint Secretaries, and senior bureaucrats across relevant Central and State ministries.
- Develop and deliver targeted pitches, presentations, and concept notes that position BVM as a strategic platform aligned with national priorities: Atmanirbhar Bharat, Make in India, ODOP, Startup India, National Bamboo Mission, and PLI schemes.
- Secure high-level government endorsements and patronage that elevate BVM’s institutional credibility and unlock downstream opportunities (co-branding, funding, dignitary participation).
- Represent BVM at government forums, inter-ministerial meetings, and policy roundtables to build visibility and institutional trust.
Partnership Development & Scheme Alignment
- Drive government co-sponsorship conversations — not just logo placement, but substantive involvement: knowledge sessions, policy panels, scheme awareness pavilions, and ministerial keynotes.
- Identify and pursue government grants, subsidies, and institutional budgets applicable to BVM components.
- Engage State government Industry/Commerce departments to drive state-level participation, state pavilions, and delegations.
Relationship Building & Stakeholder Management
- Build and maintain a strategic stakeholder map across Central ministries (MSME, Commerce & Industry, DPIIT, Textiles, Agriculture, Food Processing) and State government counterparts.
- Develop relationships with key advisors, think tanks, and policy influencers who shape government priorities in trade, MSME, and industrial policy.
Reporting & Strategic Intelligence
- Provide the Director and CEO with regular strategic briefings on the government engagement pipeline: who’s engaged, what’s in play, what’s at risk, and where to double down.
- Track policy developments, budget announcements, and scheme updates that create new partnership angles for BVM.
- Document all government relationships, outreach history, and partnership outcomes to build institutional memory for future BVM editions.
Requirements
Must-Have
- 5–10 years of experience in government relations, public affairs, institutional business development, or policy advocacy — with a track record of building relationships.
- Demonstrated ability to pitch institutional platforms or initiatives to government stakeholders and convert conversations into formal partnerships, endorsements, or co-sponsorships.
- Deep understanding of India’s Central government machinery: how ministries work, how decisions flow, who the decision-makers are, and how to navigate bureaucratic timelines.
- Existing network within Central government ministries (MSME, Commerce, DPIIT, or allied) and/or industry bodies (CAIT, CII, FICCI, ASSOCHAM).
Good-to-Have
- Prior experience positioning large-scale events, summits, or platforms for government endorsement or institutional partnership.
- Background in public policy, political science, public administration, or institutional consulting.
- Working knowledge of government schemes relevant to trade, manufacturing, and MSMEs: Atmanirbhar Bharat, Make in India, ODOP, PLI, Startup India, National Bamboo Mission.
- Experience engaging State-level Industry/Commerce departments for delegation-building or state pavilion participation.
- Familiarity with government procurement, co-sponsorship, and institutional funding processes.
What You Get
- A platform-building role, not a support function — you directly shape BVM’s government positioning and institutional credibility.
- Direct access to CAIT’s 8 crore+ trader network and institutional leadership as leverage for government conversations.
- Exposure to senior policymakers, Ministers, and industry leaders across India’s trade and MSME ecosystem.
- Opportunity to build a government partnerships playbook from scratch with long-term career value in public affairs and institutional relations.
- Competitive compensation commensurate with experience and network depth.
