Creative Arts Instructor– Summer 2026

BGC Weston-Mount Dennis & Lawrence Heights Clubs serves children and youth in the Lawrence Heights, Weston-Mount Dennis, and surrounding communities. We provide social, physical, educational, creative, seasonal, and community support programs that empower young people to build confidence, develop skills, and thrive.
We are seeking a creative, energetic, and organized Creative Arts Instructor/Art & Craft Staff to lead engaging programming for children ages 12-18 years, creating a safe, inclusive, and inspiring environment.

Program Overview

- Creative expression & hands-on projects

- Mentorship

- Skill-building through creativity
Responsibilities
- Plan, organize, and lead art and craft activities for children ages 12-18
- Create a safe, supportive, and enjoyable environment for all participants
- Design and facilitate fun, creative, and inclusive art projects
- Teach a variety of art techniques (painting, drawing, DIY crafts, mixed media, etc.)
- Prepare lesson plans and structured creative programming
- Encourage creativity, self-expression, and confidence in participants
- Adapt activities to meet different skill levels and abilities
- Ensure programming is age-appropriate, inclusive, non-competitive, and skill-based
- Maintain safety standards and supervise participants at all times (including headcounts)
- Manage behavior and resolve conflicts using positive and respectful techniques
- Ensure all materials and supplies are safe, organized, and well-maintained
- Complete administrative tasks (attendance, reports, etc.) in a timely manner
- Build and maintain positive relationships with youth, staff, volunteers, and families
- Participate in staff training, meetings, and orientation sessions
- Follow all Club policies and procedures, including incident response protocols
- Arrive at least 15 minutes prior to each scheduled shift
Qualifications
- Experience working with children ages12-18
- Strong background or interest in arts, crafts, or creative programming
- Passion for creativity, youth engagement, and hands-on learning
- Strong leadership, communication, and teamwork skills
- Excellent organization, time management, and problem-solving abilities
Assets:
- Education in Fine Arts, Design, or related field
- Experience with a variety of art mediums (painting, crafts, digital art, etc.)
- HIGH FIVE: Principles of Healthy Child Development certification
Mandatory Requirements:
- Valid First Aid & CPR certification
- Police Reference Check (to be completed upon hiring)
Eligibility Requirement
This position is funded through the Government of Canada’s Canada Summer Jobs program. Applicants must meet the eligibility criteria.
To be eligible, candidates must:

- Be between 15 and 30 years of age at the start of employment
- Be a Canadian citizen, permanent resident, or person with refugee protection under the Immigration and Refugee Protection Act
- Be legally entitled to work in Canada
Contract Details
- Contract Period: June 22, 2026 – August 14, 2026
- Mandatory Training: June 22 – June 26, 2026 (attendance required)
- Hours: 35–37.5 hours per week
- Schedule: Monday to Friday (5 days/week – mandatory)
