Annual salary: $ 109,700.00 - 138,700.00

Position Highlights

Our Project Delivery department leads the planning and execution of a multi-billion dollar portfolio of generation,

transmission, dam safety and substation projects. The Project Delivery team consists of professionals (employees and

contractors) with diverse roles and backgrounds, working together with internal and external partners to deliver quality

projects safely, on scope, on budget, and on schedule. At any time, Project Delivery is managing 500+ projects in various

phases, from early identification through in-service close-out, ranging in cost from low millions to over a billion dollars.

The Lines team is part of Project Delivery and consists of project managers with a wide variety of backgrounds and work

experience. Our portfolio includes transmission, distribution, telecommunication, and protection and controls projects across

the province that are both internally (growth, sustainment) and customer-driven. We are looking for at least two skilled

project managers to join the Lines department and delivery a range of project types.

What you'll do

  • Is the project manager for a portfolio of low risk, medium impact/complexity projects and/or as an assistant project

manager (e.g. managing discrete scope elements) for higher risk/impact/complexity projects and has overall accountability

for the results of those projects.

  • Responsible for coordinating and obtaining approval for project objectives in partnership with the initiator of the Project

and other functional groups. Project objectives can be associated with scope, cost, environmental, indigenous relations,

stakeholders, properties, and regulatory requirements.

  • Leads initial development and updates of project scope documents to make sure that they align with the project objectives.
  • Set up the project team which may include internal and external resources. Works with team to develop work breakdown

structure (WBS) and detailed work packages to deliver the project scope.

  • Completes alternative analyses, writes business cases and obtains funding approvals.
  • Consults with indigenous nations, stakeholder groups and the public on a variety of issues of importance to the project.
  • Represents BC Hydro in discussions and negotiations with regulators and other agencies and helps secure licenses and

regulatory approvals as required.

  • Develops supply chain strategies and establishes commercial arrangements with consultants and contractors, as required.
  • Represents BC Hydro as the ‘Contract Owner’ or ‘Hydro’s Representative’ on service, materials and construction

contracts. Participates in contract and claim negotiations with suppliers and contractors, as required.

  • Responsible for monitoring and analyzing the project status and performance throughout the project delivery lifecycle and

taking corrective action when required.

  • Leads the team in proactive risk management and ongoing identification, treatment, and timely communication of project

risks.

  • Leads the project team through the monthly project progression process and provides progress reporting to the Initiator

and other management groups as required.

  • Reviews and analyzes the project cost, scope and schedule variances, and takes corrective action, including management

of the project contingency.

  • Manages project acceptance and closure activities. Releases project resources and prepares the Project Completion &

Evaluation Report.

  • Provides regular and significant coaching/mentoring, acts as a role model and engages in self-development through

personal leadership.

  • Model the ‘One-Hydro’ approach ensuring that decisions support the broader needs of the organization which could

include participating internal initiatives. A key component of the One-Hydro approach is fostering collaboration amongst

parts of the organization.

  • For customer projects, maintains close relations with the Integrated Planning Interconnections Managers, Customer Care,

customers, and other stakeholders to plan and adjust priorities throughout the project lifecycle.

What you bring

  • Bachelor degree in a relevant discipline such as engineering, business, environmental sciences or economics. Candidates

who have a technical Diploma plus several years of relevant Project Management experience will also be considered.

  • Courses in Project Management preferred.
  • Minimum six years of progressively more responsible Project Management experience within an electric utility or similar

industrial environment.

  • Knowledgeable on project related standards, policies, practices, and procedures, contributing to the development of

project standards as well as enforcing/modeling project standards.

  • Demonstrated leadership ability.
  • Demonstrated customer focus.
  • Ability to operate in a fast-paced dynamic environment, adjusting strategies in response to customer and/or BC Hydro

requested changes that are often urgent in nature.

  • Good communication, facilitation, negotiation, and interpersonal skills.
  • Good planning, organizational, analytical, and problem-solving skills.
  • Lesser qualified candidates are encouraged to apply and may still be considered.

What else you should know

  • A condition of employment for this job is that you maintain your Driver's License: Class 5 in Good Standing.
  • This position is located at our Edmonds Office (Burnaby) with occasional travel within the province being required.
  • The ability to work as a client service provider and to communicate effectively with client business development/marketing,

field operations and construction management teams to meet client strategic objectives is essential.

  • Demonstrated experience related to transmission/distribution lines, protection & controls, telecommunications or customer

interconnection projects considered an asset.

  • Eligible for registration or registered as a Professional Engineer (P.Eng.) with the Engineers and Geoscientists of British

Columbia (EGBC) considered an asset.

  • Eligible for registration or registered as a Project Management Professional (PMP) with the Project Management Institute

(PMI) is considered an asset.
