Laboratory Technical Assistant 2 (Civil)

Annual salary: $ 58,080 - $ 63,778.00
What you'll do
- Performs and oversees the testing and examination of specific items within the mechanical, civil, electrical or chemical
discipline by recording measurements, operating specialized test instruments, determining parameters, locating failure
points and reporting causes of test equipment malfunctions and preparing related reports.
- Reviews project test protocols, inspects products and advises technologists of conformity to established standards,
specifications and procedures; advises clients of approved procedures and recommends corrective measures or advises
project /laboratory leader of unusual problems.
- Discusses and provides cost and time required for testing to project leaders.
- Provides routine technical assistance in the field on matters as these relate to testing and requirements.
- Operates a variety of equipment used in the testing set up.
- Provides janitorial and cleanup services for the lab.
- Performs duties of a minor nature related to the above duties that do not affect the rating of the job. This includes the
performance of duties across disciplines in a job of the same or lower job group.
What you bring
Completion of a Certificate of Technology in Mechanical, Materials, Civil, Electronics, Electrical, Power, or Chemistry
disciplines with preference given to the discipline relating to the position. Up to 2 years of experience related to the specific
position working in a lab setting up and performing tests on a variety of equipment, materials and components would be an
asset.
What we offer
This role will support the Civil Testing services team. Experience in soil and materials laboratory testing, including sample
preparation (processing, washing, drying, sieving, and moisture conditioning) and test setup would be an asset.
Strong laboratory support skills, including maintenance of specialized equipment and instrumentation, as well as
organization and storage of test specimens. Hands-on mechanical experience is preferred.
Working Conditions:
Majority of day spent in laboratory conditions exposed to fumes, smells and hazardous materials. Regular exposure to
ongoing tests and noise. Exposure to slips and falls. Majority of day on feet.

be required as a pre-condition to employment.
- A condition of employment for this job is that you maintain your Class 5 Driver's License in good standing.
