Sr. Electrical Engineer
Direct Hire Full-Time Role
Pay Rate: $70 - $80 per hour
Location: Rockville, MD - Onsite Role
Job Summary
As a Senior Electrical Engineer, you will lead the architecture, design, and implementation of critical electrical subsystems and modules for SatCom user terminals. Reporting to the Engineering Manager, you will serve as a technical authority for power supplies, GNSS integration, and network exchange modules. An ideal candidate brings a sophisticated mathematical and engineering foundation, capable of solving complex, high-stakes hardware challenges with minimal oversight. This role requires a proven track record in high-speed digital design, hands-on lab leadership, and the ability to mentor junior engineers through rigorous documentation and validation standards.
Duties and Responsibilities:
- Lead the creation and critical review of hardware design documents, ensuring block diagrams, schematics, and BOMs meet global SatCom standards.
- Drive the design and implementation of high-current switching power supplies and GNSS receiver modules using advanced microcontrollers, CPLDs, and FPGAs.
- Oversee complex simulations for signal and power integrity (SI/PI) to guarantee robust performance in high-speed environments.
- Direct board bring-up, advanced debugging, and Design Verification Testing (DVT) to ensure prototypes exceed operational requirements.
- Partner with procurement and Contract Manufacturers (CMs) to optimize DFM/DFA processes and ensure scalable production.
- Establish and maintain rigorous standards for lab notes and design documentation throughout the entire product development cycle.
- Architect Python-based test automation frameworks and integrate AI tools to revolutionize schematic generation and predictive component selection.
Requirements and Qualifications:
- Bachelor's Degree in Electrical Engineering; Master's Degree in Electrical Engineering
- Minimum of ten (10) years of related work experience.
- Strong knowledge of microelectronics, electrical power systems, and circuit theories.
- Experience with high-speed multi-gigabit digital system design.
- Proficiency with schematic and PCB layout tools.
- Hands-on experience with lab equipment (oscilloscopes, function generators, etc.) and simulation tools like HyperLynx or PSPICE.
- Proficiency in Cadence (Allegro/OrCAD) or other ECAD software
Preferred Qualifications
- Demonstrated experience in high-speed Ku/Ka/Q band design.
- Proven experience with DDR memory design (DDR3/DDR4/DDR5), including length matching, impedance control, and topology constraints
- Strong knowledge of various protocols, including Ethernet, SPI, LVDS, RS232, RS422, etc
- Strong knowledge of general power supply components
- Experience in FPGA design and microprocessors is a plus.
- Strong communication skills and the ability to communicate ideas with engineers, vendors, and customers
- Strong analytical and organizational skills, coupled with a well-focused details
- Proficiency in Python for engineering applications and familiarity with AI-assisted design platforms.
