Job Description
Avistrat is an engineering capability partner of the dynamic Indian aerospace sector. We collaborate with aerospace companies, startups, and academic institutions to enable engineers to actively contribute to all stages of design, from concept to detailed design, right from day one. We work in various models with companies. This search is part of our capacity building service wherein we are supporting our client in recruiting the right talent with the desired skill sets. This role is not with Avistrat but our client described below.
COMPANY OVERVIEW
Our client is a pioneering Tier I Indian supplier for the aerospace and defence (A&D) sectors, focused on delivering mission-critical and safety-critical products and solutions.
The company employs a design-led philosophy, ensuring high control over quality and innovation. Key strengths include an innovation-first R&D approach for bespoke solutions, unparalleled regulatory excellence (holding both civil and military certifications), and a proven record of "first-time-right" delivery.
The company is a reliable, long-term strategic partner committed to advancing the A&D sectors through indigenous engineering.
ROLE OVERVIEW: Aerospace Production Engineer
The (Sr.) Aerospace Production Engineer serves as the critical technical link between design intent and physical manufacturing. This individual is responsible for leading the setup, certification, and optimization of the company's Aircraft Seating Final Assembly Line (FAL) as well as other aerospace product assembly lines.
The primary objective is to transform engineering blueprints into lean, repeatable manufacturing processes while ensuring that the outsourced component supply chain integrates seamlessly into a world-class assembly operation.
CROSS-FUNCTIONAL COLLABRATION
The Production Engineer operates within a core leadership "Triad" to ensure operational success:
- With Design Engineering: The Production Engineer performs Design for Manufacturing and Assembly (DFM/DFA) reviews to ensure new seat variants are optimized for production efficiency.
- With the Supply Chain Manager: The Production Engineer defines kitting requirements and "Make vs. Buy" technical logic to ensure the ERP reflects accurate assembly lead times and material flow.
- With the Quality Manager: The Production Engineer co-develops Work Instructions and "Quality Gates" to guarantee every seat meets FAA/EASA airworthiness standards prior to dispatch.
KEY RESPONSIBILITIES
1. FAL Setup & Management
- Line Architecture: Designs the physical layout of the Final Assembly Line, including the placement of workstations, specialized jigs, and the integration of pneumatic and electrical tooling.
- Standard Operating Procedures (SOPs): Authors highly visual, step-by-step Assembly Work Instructions that translate complex engineering drawings into clear tasks for assembly technicians.
- Capacity Planning: Establishes "Takt Time" (production heartbeat) to meet delivery targets for high-volume seat orders while maintaining the agility required for R&D variants such as Rotor Dampers.
2. Manufacturing Engineering & Optimization
- Continuous Improvement: Identifies bottlenecks within the assembly process and implements "Lean" solutions, such as specialized shadow boards and ergonomic enhancements, to reduce total assembly hours.
- Value Engineering: Partners with the Supply Chain Manager to identify high-cost components and collaborates with Design Engineering to modify parts for manufacturing ease without compromising TSO certification.
- Tooling & Fixtures: Designs or sources the necessary assembly jigs and "go/no-go" gauges required to maintain production repeatability and precision.
3. ERP & Technical Integration
- BOM Management: Ensures the Manufacturing Bill of Materials (MBOM) is accurately structured within the ERP, including all sub-components and consumables like rivets and fasteners.
- Routing & Work Centers: Defines digital "Routings" in the ERP to map out assembly stages for accurate cost-tracking and production scheduling.
CANDIDATE PROFILE
Education: Graduation or Post-Graduation in Mechanical/ Production/ Aerospace/ Industrial Engineering.
Experience: 3+ years in Aerospace Manufacturing, with a focus on assembly environments
Skills: Mastery of DFM/DFA principles and proficiency in CAD SolidWorks/CATIA) for jig and fixture design.
Certifications: Six Sigma Green/Black Belt or Lean Manufacturing certification would be a plus
Regulatory Knowledge: Familiarity with AS9100, Part 21G (Production Organization Approval), and TSO seat standards is expected.
Going Above and Beyond: As a complementary skillset, any experience in engineering design or supply chain management would
be a plus
THE VALUE PROPOSITION
The ideal candidate is a proactive problem-solver who thrives on the shop floor and possesses the discipline required for a Tier-I aerospace factory. This individual must be capable of establishing a culture where quality is "built-in" to the process rather than merely inspected at the end.
