Job Description
Most hospitals say they care about culture. We designed ours.
Apex Vets is an independently owned emergency & specialty hospital built on what we call the Apex Climb—a team-first approach where no one climbs alone. We operate like a rope team: we support each other, communicate clearly, and move forward together, especially when things get hard.
We believe great medicine comes from people who feel supported, challenged, and proud of the work they do.
Qualifications
What Makes This Role Different
You’re not here to just “work the floor.”
You’re here to operate at a high level—and to be part of a team that expects it.
This is an emergency and critical care environment where technicians are trusted to:
- Work at the top of their skillset
- Think, not just execute
- Act as true partners in patient care
You’ll be supported, but you’ll also be expected to step up, communicate clearly, and contribute to how the floor runs.
What You’ll Do
You’ll be responsible for delivering high-level nursing care in a fast-paced ER setting:
- Monitor hospitalized patients and recognize changes in condition
- Perform TPRs, obtain histories, and communicate findings
- Place and maintain IV catheters and central lines
- Administer medications (IV, IM, SQ, oral)
- Perform blood draws and handle lab work
- Assist with anesthesia, procedures, and emergency interventions
- Perform radiographs and support diagnostics
- Calculate and administer fluids and CRIs
- Provide wound care, bandaging, and general nursing support
- Maintain accurate and timely medical records
- Communicate clearly with doctors, team members, and clients
This is hands-on, detail-driven emergency medicine.
People Who
Who Thrives Here (The Apex Climb Mentality)
- Work as part of a team, not independently of it
- Stay steady when the floor gets busy or unpredictable
- Communicate early and clearly—no guessing, no silence
- Take initiative and anticipate what’s needed next
- Accept feedback and actively improve
- Support teammates and expect the same in return
If you want to grow your skills and take ownership of your role, you’ll do well here.
If you prefer being told exactly what to do and staying in a fixed lane, this won’t be the right fit.
What You’ll Gain
- Competitive pay
- Medical, dental, and vision insurance
- 401(k) with employer match
- PTO and personal time
- CE support and ongoing training
- Opportunity to advance through nursing levels
- Hands-on experience with a wide range of ER and critical cases
- A team environment with clear expectations and accountability
- Access to a wellness room, large break room, and on-site staff gym
The Reality of the Role
This Job Is Physically And Mentally Demanding
- You’ll be on your feet for most of your shift
- You’ll lift and handle patients
- You’ll manage multiple cases at once
- You’ll see high-stress and emotional situations
This is not a slow or easy role.
But you’ll be part of a team that communicates clearly, supports each other, and keeps the floor moving.
Requirements
- Prior experience in emergency or critical care preferred
- Strong technical and nursing skills
- Ability to multitask and prioritize
- Strong communication and teamwork skills
- Ability to lift 50 lbs and stand for extended periods
