A Veterinary Assistant’s Primary Function In The Emergency Care Department At Apex Vets Is To Provide The Highest Quality In

  • Patient nursing care
  • Client service
  • Assistance to veterinarians and all other coworkers

Position Purpose

The technician assistant plays an integral role in the advanced veterinary care provided by Apex Vets. This role goes hand-in-hand with our purpose of enhancing the quality of life for patients.

Responsibilities / Duties /Functions /Tasks

  • Restrain animals for examinations, procedures, and treatments.
  • Triage patients and get history from owners as they come in.
  • Assist technicians with inpatient and outpatient treatments.
  • Obtain vitals on patients.
  • Follow direction/leadership of Team Leads (all departments)
  • Assists in taking radiographs.
  • Set up wet sink for lacerations and minor procedures and clean after procedures.
  • Knowledge of names and locations of all instruments and equipment used in ECC. And how to clean the instruments used in ER.
  • Feed and walk patients as needed.
  • Prepare prescriptions as ordered by the Doctor, under supervision of Doctor and/or technician
  • Maintain cleanliness and order in work areas, treat common areas with respect. Clean up messes.
  • Perform kennel duties as required, including sweeping, mopping and laundry.
  • Perform inventory and restocking duties as required.
  • Read and follow all policies set in the Apex Employee Manual

Qualifications

High School Diploma or equivalent. Veterinary experience preferred but not required. Basic customer service skills required. Basic computer skills necessary.

Physical Effort

While performing the duties of this job, the employee is frequently required to bend, stand, stoop, walk, talk, and listen; may require extended periods of time on the feet. Use hands to manipulate, handle, feel or reach with hands and arms. Required to lift up to 50 pounds. Employees will be expected to acquire assistance with lifting or carrying animals or materials over 50 pounds.

Work Requirements

  • Hazards associated with infected animals, control substances and possible exposure to contagious diseases.
  • Possible exposure to unpleasant odors and noises
  • Possible exposure to aggressive patients, bites, scratches, and animal’s waste
  • Possible exposure to chemotherapeutic agents/ waste

Performance of this position will be evaluated on the performance of the job description requirements and other factors as deemed appropriate.
