Senior Backend Developer

Location: Kingston, ON

Work Model: 100% Onsite (5 Days/Week)

Hours: 7.25 hours/day, Monday–Friday (8:00 AM–5:00 PM)

Contract: Through October 5, 2027, with potential extension

Position Summary

We are seeking a Senior Backend Developer with extensive experience in cloud-native application development, Azure technologies, enterprise integrations, and DevOps practices. The successful candidate will design, develop, deploy, and support scalable backend solutions while collaborating with project teams, business stakeholders, and technical specialists.

Required Qualifications - Technical Expertise

Minimum 8+ years of hands-on experience in cloud application development and software engineering.

Strong expertise in:

• Microsoft Azure (App Services, Azure Functions, AKS)
• Docker and Kubernetes/OpenShift
• Azure DevOps, Jenkins, Ansible, and CI/CD pipeline automation
• Cloud-native architecture and enterprise application development

Experience with:

• Enterprise cloud architecture
• Security and compliance (IAM, encryption, governance)
• Observability, monitoring, and logging solutions
• Data engineering and Azure data services (ETL/ELT)
• DevOps and DevSecOps practices
• High-availability and scalable system design

Expert-level proficiency in one or more of the following:

• Java
• Python
• SQL
• JavaScript/TypeScript (Node.js)

Extensive experience designing, developing, and integrating RESTful APIs.

Strong understanding of SDLC and structured methodologies for application design, development, implementation, testing, and maintenance.

Additional Technical Knowledge

• Middleware and gateway technologies.

• Front-end integration with backend services.
• AODA standards and accessibility requirements.

Key Responsibilities - Development & Integration

Design, develop, test, and maintain backend applications and services.

Translate technical specifications into working, tested solutions.

Build and integrate cloud-based and enterprise applications using Azure technologies.

Develop and support RESTful APIs and system integrations.

Integrate open-source software solutions into existing environments.

Ensure application performance, scalability, security, and reliability.

Testing & Deployment

Prepare programming specifications, test plans, test data, and implementation plans.

Conduct unit testing and support system and integration testing.

Participate in code reviews, design walkthroughs, and test result reviews.

Support application deployments and production releases.

Support & Troubleshooting

Investigate and resolve application and production issues.

Provide post-implementation support and technical troubleshooting.

Respond to client inquiries and operational incidents.

Support ongoing system maintenance and enhancements.

Documentation & Reporting

Create and maintain technical specifications, system documentation, implementation plans, and application inventories.

Provide regular status updates, progress reports, and issue escalations to project leadership.

Support knowledge transfer activities for staff.

Analytical Skills

Analyze business requirements and convert them into technical solutions.

Strong problem-solving and troubleshooting abilities within complex enterprise environments.

Experience working within enterprise architecture frameworks, project management methodologies, and SDLC processes.
